Does anyone know of a site that lists or compares the performance of various used MB models?

I am particularly interested in the various CLK and E-Class variations.

Meb,

there are several sites around with details on performance of the older Merc models. I found this lot at Performance stats - first number is 0-60, 2nd is qtr mile time.

From what I remember, there wasn't usually much between the performance of the W210 E Class and W208 CLK with the same engine (a few 10ths to 60, etc, since the weight was not all that different). If there is a particular model comparison that you are after, I've still got the old brochures, so could look up the specifics for you.....

7.6 eh?

The "book" reckons something like 8.5 seconds 0-60 for the c230k so if the above figure is anything like accurate then you can safely knock half a second off the "book" 0-60 time for whatever you're looking at for a "true" figure ;)

Wonder why they don't list the E300 diesels ahh just spotted its an American site and with the other thread on here, the E320 Cdi is the first diesel Merc in the US

no its not.. mercs have sold diesels for years...

1980 Mercedes-Benz 240D (4spd) 19.7 21.

and I have a 110 chassis listed in the epc with OM 621 (diesel) - thats a 60's car iirc...

The USA was MBs biggest diesel market in the '70s and '80s.

The E300TD was the last diesel to be sold in the USA until the launch of the 320CDi.
It's down to the high sulpher content in the fuel, however this is now being cut to European standards.

Just looking at the chart and noticed that the 0-60 times vary a lot but the quarter mile times are not too far adrift.

I guess this means that the 0-60 is more influenced by initial take off than actual acceleration, which is why "in gear" times are more appropriate to everyday driving, and even racing I suppose.

How can the convertible be quicker than the coupe?

Well, I guess those are actual timings, so there could be any degree of variation.

Given the ages, the earlier one probably has no catalytic converter, the later one does.

So it should be even quicker

edit..
a non-cat 300ce24 has 230bhp and weighs under 1400kg
a 300 conv (3.2) has only 217bhp and weighs over 1700kg

no way is the conv quicker to 60.

This just goes to show why 0-60 is such a load of rubbish.

Even the same tester can't replicate times because it's more about getting the launch just right than actual vehicle performance.

I just took a look at the figures and of course you're right, the pre-cat ones are definitely faster/more powerful. The 0-60s makes no sense at all unless it's got something to do with the transmission.

Mercedes have always had a very low first gear ratio, and therefore 0-60/62 speeds are misleading. As Dieselman says perhaps 30-90 would be more comparable. ;)

There are many questionable figures in that list! ;)

As an extract from the source states: "This is a collection of 0-60 and 1/4 mile times we have accumulated from many different sources over the past few years."

and: "This list is only meant to be a guideline, NOT THE GOSPEL!!!"

Says it all really  ;)

Cheers,

Will

I just looked at the link..
