I just wanted to write a wee thread to let everyone know how I got on with my SBC pump replacement.
Reading through endless threads on this forum and other forums I came to the conclusion that these pumps can only be replaced at either a main dealer or independent Mercedes specialist.
After lots, and I do mean lots of research I found a way around the Mercedes network.
Here's how I got mine repaired.
There are several Bosch service centres (local garages with Bosch factory backing) scattered around the UK. All SBC pumps are made by Bosch. All Bosch service centres have diagnostics and computer equipment to look into and rectify all Bosch components on any car. This includes getting around Star. Also, as it is a Bosch pump, made by Bosch and ordered through a Bosch garage there is no high Merc mark-up.
I booked my car into Hendrie Graham motor engineers in Paisley, Scotland. The owner couldn't have been more helpful. He explained how he looks after a fleet of e class funeral cars and has replaced these pumps before.
I now have my car back and feels as good as new again.
Going down the Bosch route saved me a lot of money from main dealer and Merc indy quotes and I'd recommend this route to anyone else.
