hi all . i have a vito van . 2000 cdi 108 endine. its the 2.2 turbo
i think the head gasket has gone . however i can drive it every day . i put around 2 litres of water a day into it doing small local trips . if i do a days work in london 3 hr round trip its more like 5 litres , it all really started about a yr ago . i had a water pump leak ( from the bearing ) so replced the pump and its fine no leaks .
1st question . can the serpentine belt be put on wrong so the water pump runs backwards ?? air lock and circulation probs
my engine when started runs fine . but temp gauge goes up to 80 withinn 15 mins . then it will fluctuate between 100 and 60 and sometimes go back down to 50 ish . i have a cab heater under the passengers seat ( under the van ) when the temp shows 100 i can turn on the cab heater ( red indicator light will come on ) and it will shoot down to 60
so i think i clearly have air lock issues.
every morning i top up the header tank ( expansion bottle ) and its very pressurised .
can see clear smoke ie steam out of exhaust
sometimes black smoke.
2nd question
there is a plastic rail on the air intake side on the top of the engine . found a sensor attched to a air rubber tube hanging out of the solid plastic rail type tube thats bolted to the top of the engine . very oily. is this the maf sensor ? thinking its the black smoke prob and why i can smell unburnt diesel from time to time . have pushed it back in for now
have used k seal twice to try and fix the unknown head gasket prob ( if it is ) however i do know about engines and in my experiences i have never been able to drive many miles with a head gaket prob. but maybe it very minor ?
i have rung k seal and very kindly they have sent me some seal up . need to drain engine of antifreeze , refill with water and seal up . bring engine to heat . run for 20 mins . then leave to stand for 8 hrs min . then drain and flush engine then refill with anti freeze etc. and it may plug any probs
before i do all this i need some advise and any predictions .
how can i drive this all the time if its a head gasket ? admittedly i am loosing water and have air at the top of the engine . oh and i do not have any hot air in the heater within cab( sometimes it may get hot ) . have a thermostate on standby. (bloody £75 mind you . all in 1 alu body and water sensor )
please help
cheers shaun
