Mercedes 190e Cosworth 2.3 16
Good Afternoon all, I have just signed up to this forum as I have what I believe to be a rare Mercedes 190E Cosworth 2.3-16.

I am looking to sell the car but am not sure of value.

The car has a lot of history which I will detail below. It has been in storage for 4 years and I only just got it out this weekend.

The condition isn't great and it would make the ideal project for someone. Whilst in storage the car did have an MOT carried out and it hasn't driven a mile since, so in theory once I get it running again it should pass straight away. I will get this done prior to any sale.

What is rare about this car is its history. It was the feature car of AutoCar in 1985, being on the front page and a 9 page article in side. It is pictured with Cosworths design chief Mike Hall.

AutoCar also did a follow up on the car 11 years later in 1996. I have both original copies of the magazines.

There are also many articles on line stating this is the car that put AYRTON SENNA on the map as a driver.

The car has done 177k miles and there is a thick file of service history and bills.

I know with cars they are only worth what someone is will to pay. I am looking to sell this car to an enthusiast and am happy to be guided on price.

Please let me know your thoughts, it would be interesting to learn more !

Not a very good time to be selling a classic car at the moment. Most potential buyers of a 16v w201 will be well aware of the issues and these bodykitted models can have lots of hidden rust so really value all depends on how far gone it is. My understanding is the 16v engines are also not quite as long lived as the more mundane engines in lesser w201's so it takes a good chunk of cash to restore one of these.

That said the interiors and bodykits are worth money on their own so you may make more breaking it if you are that way inclined.

Best of luck

Hi and welcome,

I know the car, I remember when it was for sale on eBay a few years ago. I think it then re-appeared for sale or work was being done to it by a classic car restoration place that must be close by to where you are located.

Would be interested to know more about it’s current condition and what work you have had done etc.

The 16v 190Es have really climbed in value in recent years, and are continuing to do so. The lockdown probably won’t impact your chances of a sale.

I sold one of mine earlier this year, there’s a strong market for these cars at present.

If you need any parts, give me a shout as I still have a good amount of spares for these cars.

Best wishes,

Will

If you haven’t already done so , post this over on Mercedes-190.co.uk , which is the specialist forum for the W201 in the UK

I remember these back in the Sierra cossie days. Lovely cars!

Hello Will, I know your message is quite old now but we ( a fuel injection specisalist ) have just completed quite a lot of work on a 190e 2.5 for a customer and have advised he replace a few itmes we spotted need attention and are obsolete from Mercedes and you said you have quite a few spares. In particular the top chain guide A102 052 2016 and the air flow assembly rubber boot A 102 141 18 90.
Or even recomend where we might try. We have it running and they are not urgent but will need attention in the future.
He does have an KE Jetronic ECU to sell as the wrong one was fitted to the car and we managed to source the correct one from Germany . He has A 010 545 02 32 fits a 1.8 190E
Regards Shaun
