Hello everyone. I’ve been away for quite some time now but needed some advice on a restoration project a friend of mine wants to do on his SEC. Its a 1989 G Reg, black on black, unfortunately it’s been sitting on his driveway for 2 years. I was after some advice on the following any help would be greatly appreciated:
- any recommendations on garages that would do a great job in restoring the car, based in West London?
- is it best to get replacement parts for the wings/doors which are rusted or work with original?
- would it be worth restoring or best putting the money it may cost, on another classic Mercedes?

Good rust free used parts are better than aftermarket. Rust is like cancer, in many cases if just keeps coming back. In my opinion, unless you have a garage that you can park a car for the winter, all cars in the UK will rust.

That's subjective but usually yes. Nothing depreciates faster than new parts and labor. That said, with a restoration, you can go at your own pace

Not really West London but InAutos in East Grinstead (not a million miles away) do restorations and are Merc specialists. Just picked my E up after having some work done and they had a DB6 in. I’ve always been pleased with their work.
