As a trimmer myself I feel that quote is out of proportion. However just to expand on spraying and colouring, I think we have all seen youtube clips of people doing decent jobs by spraying and painting leather. However it works well, but the cracks will always remain and will get affected over time as the colour is sitting on the surface of the leather, in contrast to a re-trim where the whole seat is re stitched (Like it once was at the factory) with a new skin which trimmers normally add foam to pad out the seat.

costs are normally driven when genuine leather is used (You get much less for your money as a lot of the hide goes to waste when paneling). Once again if you contrast that to using synthetic leather which is as good (In some cases better) as genuine Leather, will have far less maintenance and very resistant.

I would personally go for high grade synthetic leather if genuine leather is out of budget.

:)
