Hi we are looking at buying a Mercedes a class and dont know what os better engine, the a220 so the 2. 2 diesel or the a250 so the 2.0 turbo petrol we will do about 100 miles a week and want to get something that will give us least problems. Thanks

Erm isn't the 2.0 petrol engine a Renault unit? Not sure how good they are... but if I buy a Merc I want it to be a Merc..

For your intended mileage a diesel engine would not be a wise choice.

Definately a petrol engine.

Ignore the comments about it being a Renault engine not making it a Mercedes!

Do Mercedes make every other component?

No, of course they don't. If this is the car you want then go with it 👍👍👍

Correct Mercs don't make a lot of components.. no manufacturer makes a lot of parts but the engine is a pretty significant major part of the car..

You could buy a Renault and say you drive a Mercedes I guess?

But anyway, back to the subject in hand.. Petrol still might be your best bet for the mileage as mentioned. Just be aware, it will be part Renault.

Pathetic snobbery!

The OP asked for advice on engine type, not to have their choice derided.

Some Aston Martin engines are derived from Ford V6 blocks etc.

With such ignorance and arrogance you are another one for the ignore list.
