Hi,

I've started noticing recently that my temperature gauge is going above 80 and i am having to regularly switch on the heating on fall blast to bring the temperature back down. Any ideas what this could be and how to fix it please?

Thank You

What temp does it go up to? Petrol or diesel engine? Mine are all diesel and the normal temp showing is between 80 and below 100. I had a thermostat problem in my W210 once, and the engine temp warning light came on when the temp gauge was showing circa the 120 mark.

I would be concerned if it was operating at below 80C. Mine, according to laser thermometers, runs at 87C, measured at the gauge sensor. 105C measured at the rocker box above the exhaust manifold, 360C on the exhaust manifold and around 90C at various other points on the engine.

The gauge sits at just under 100C. Say 97C, so it's reading about 10C too high.

Mines a petrol and normally the temp gauge goes up to 80 and holds steady and never really moves past 80 but recently it's been going above 80 and it happens very quickly even when the car is just idling which means i have to switch the heating on full blast to get rid of some of the heat and then the temp comes back down to either 80 or just below. I don't use the car for long journeys either.

Sorry about the picture lol: mercedes-dash

This is where the temperature normally reaches now which concerns me as it never use to do this before and i don't want the engine to over heat and cause any damage.

Thanks

Well look the best way to settle it is to fit a new thermostat ,then you will have peace of mind, because your putting the heater on full blast says you think there is something wrong, and there may well be so fit the thermostat

Thanks for your reply. I don't mind replacing the thermostat as that's probably what it is. I had a similar problem am on my Golf and changing over the Thermostat solved it. Is there guide available to shows you how to replace the thermostat?

Thanks

How far above 80 does it go, I am sure this weather with air con on full and outside temp being high. My B class used to operate anything up to and slightly above 100 especially when towing my caravan this sort of weather.
