Alright, Chaps and Chapettes!
So, weeks of faffing around and I came to the conclusion that other radio I bought was knackered so I've sent it back and I've bought another one. This time, it works when you plug in the thing in the car.

Anyway, one chap here (forgot his name) has already solved this with a degree of success. He recommended filing the original cassette down to size but that'd take ages... I invested in a dremmel rotary tool and it made short work of it.

Its a little bit wonky but nothing a felt pad and gorilla glue won't fix.

The only thing left is the actual fascia panel that has a stupid cross bar splitting the 1din stereo and CD changer. A quick snip (I'll grind it out with the dremmel [emoji41]) and it'll be good to go. This is going to look smashing!

This seems to be a very specific issue with the facelift version of my car.

I'm hoping by posting this, people searching "2din upgrade Mercedes A160 W168 2002" will have some questions answered, it seems to me you can't just buy an adapter or anything that'll make the job easy. I mean, it's not difficult, just a bit fiddly cutting out the section wide enough for the thing. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Now, I just need a new project for my car [emoji23]

Still no idea where that handbrake switch goes... Anyone?

Perfect. Nothing a bit of cardboard and electrical tape couldn't fix! Ready for installation!

Finished product. I've lost the bloomin' panel to make it look all neat. It'll turn up.

The radio system had to be sent back. Only works if the engine isn't running... As soon as the engine is running, it wants to show the reversing camera even when I've not installed the reversing camera making the whole thing redundant.

Sounds like you've mixed up a couple of wires (or some pins need to be re-wired) ...

You should only see reversing cam input, when you shift to R :p

The factory connector thing fits, no wiring needing [emoji23] unless some other pillock has been messing around with it before me... 16 previous owners I've learned

Is yours an android system? I've got an android system coming, hoping it'll be a similar size but I'm expecting the same issue with the connector as I had with the first one

Well, it's a Chinese factory - they sometimes get confused ... Check pinout - it's most likely got a few pins wrong.

The head unit pictured I fitted in 2012, in my old car, which I sold five years ago. It was the dreadful WinCE, but worked okay, within its limitations.
Before that, back in Nassau, I had a Pioneer unit fitted in a pre-facelift W168 A190 I imported from Japan, that was either in 2009 or 2010 - can't remember.

Mine is a wince too, I don't rate it at all. Bloody thing is starting to get on my nerves [emoji23] it didn't come with any instructions or wiring diagram or anything.
