Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 champions

Rosberg will never win a title at Mercedes whilst Hamilton is in the team.

Well that puts him in the same position as all the other drivers who are not in a MB.

To be fair to Rosberg - who else right now would beat Hamilton in identical machinery. I think right now even Alonso and Vettel would find it hard.

Who knows what Ferrari can come up with before next season starts? Vettell isn't that many points away from Hamilton this season. Williams have a Merc engine and are quicker so is it a matter of time?

Unfortunately we'll never know. Hamilton knows the car. In the same way it could be asked if anyone else would have beaten Vettell back when Red Bull were winning everything?
I love hypothetical questions:D

Rosberg is not a slow driver, as he was constantly faster than 7x world champion Michael Schumacher when they were team mates at Mercedes.

It isn't his speed that I'm questioning (though comparing him (flatteringly) to Schumacher in MS's most dismal form doesn't prove very much) but his ability to win races.

Hamilton is just driving faster than anyone else right now.

And, more pertinently, winning more races - and championships.

Hence my proposal. Imagine Hamilton or Alonso (say) had been installed as Vettel's team mate at RB after he won his first championship. Would he have bagged the 2nd, 3rd and 4th? Same question with FA or SV in the other Mercedes last, this, and next season.

McLaren have two world champions in their cars, and so do Ferrari. This is obviously hurting Mercedes!
(Sorry, couldn't resist it.)

Hamilton proved he was quicker than Alonso in his rookie year in 2007. I'm not sure if there's a driver on the current grid that could get the better of him in the same machine over a full season.

Having said that Jenson out scored Lewis over the 3 years they were at McLaren together.

Being a massive F1 fan I'm really loving all the views put forward by everyone here. Let's hope Ferrari are very close to Merc next year so we can see Seb v's Lewis. I wonder if we'll then see team orders at Merc???

Keep the posts coming guys. It makes great reading for a sad oldie like me.

Hehehe. I agree to a point.

However, the driver does also have to be good. When Schui broke his leg at Silverstone in 1999 Ferrari replaced him with Mika Salo. Bearing in mind the Ferrari was a pretty good car that year Salo qualified in the low teens regularly.

It is mostly down to the car but the driver also needs to be quick.

As a big F1 fan - Alonso has to be the best overall package as a driver, would love to see him in the same car as Hamilton and Vettel. I know Alonso and Hamilton shared a car at McLaren, but the Woking team is SO political that I don't think FA ever stood a chance......

But maybe that is F1 all over....

We'll never really know!!!

Cannot question that LH is doing a mega job right now
