I'm going to get a mid oil and filter change for my car and MB has quoted £12 a litre for the oil. As I have an extended warranty with MB Is it worth me keeping the MB oil or is the an approved oil I can use instead??? I believe I need MB229.51

Thanks

Paul

Any approved oil will be OK. I always take my own oil. I also have extended warranty.

any oil to mb standard can be used, even when you give it in for service tell them you will supply the oil and they should deduct that from the bill.

wow - that's a coincidence :)

As you can see from the thread Will has kindly linked to - our Triple QX 5w30 C3 oil, is now APPROVED by Mercedes for use in MB229.51 specification.

This means, that for that specification, our oil is guaranteed and should be treated identical to that which Mercedes supply.

It takes several months to get an oil to Mercedes for testing and approval, and we're proud that the oil passed with flying colours. It also now enables us to supply Mercedes directly with this oil for use in all cars (both in and out of warranty vehicles)

So, Value for money - I don't think you will find a cheaper, approved engine oil!

Pat

Has anyone seen this oil before. Here in South Africa Mobil 1 is becoming very difficult to get hold of and when you can it is incredibly expensive.

Went to the dealer and they had this at half the price of Mobil 1.

That's fine for a non DPF petrol engined car. NOT suitable for a diesel with a diesel particulate filter requiring a low SAPS [ ash] oil. For a 2000 V6 M112 engine will be fine.

Ok so just rang MB and they quoted £10.60+ vat for the oil filter and quoted £14.95+ vat for the oil but if I buy the filter and oil togeather then I get 50% off the oil so it's a no brainer so will pick the stuff up tomorrow but do I have to reset anything to say its had an oil and filter change of just leave the 'B3' service in 7000milea showing on the dash????

Just change the oil and filter since there are quite a few other things to be checked at the B3 service. Why exactly do you want to change the oil now exactly and not at the B3 interval?

when i took it to have the sat nav programed and data card updated. I asked if there was anything i should do or keep an eye out for and he said a oil and filter change halfway through the service cycle would do it the world of good. So for the sake of £140-£150 may as well get it done

Check kwik fit they will do oil and filter change for approx £40.

It's possible that an oil change would be beneficial if you do a lot of short cold engine type journeys otherwise you are negating the reason for using the extended service interval properties of the not inexpensive MB 229.51 oil. What's the recommended mileage service interval on your car?

Kwik Fit is like Halfords ... You just don't let them touch anything :bannana:
