George Fraser got a bit of bad press a while back, but I believe they were one of the most experienced for gearbox repairs/rebuilds etc around here.

Other than that, what's the problem exactly? Have you had any fault codes read?

Depending on the vehicle in question, and it's value, I would consider replacing with either new or used - there's plenty of 722.6s in breakers now and I think they're about £2k for a brand new box from MB.

no fault codes showing.

not keen on GFraser.

replacement exchange gearbox is £650 plus VAT, excluding fitting.

car only cost £2500 .. was meant to be cheap run around.

problem is that changes are too jerky from 1 to 2 to 3, and downwards. It's bearable, and Steve (from Kent) tells me that the box will keep working for a while yet.

sean, id go to a breakers as a rebuild can also cost a bit!

you can try Suki @ PCS in forest gate which isnt too far from you and see what he says?

Have you tried changing the oil and filter first? If you drain the oil and it is black and burnt then it's a rebuild or exchange for sure. Will also need a torque convertor to be safe.

yes, oil and flter changed but didn't work

however, have ordered a 38k mile gearbox from Dronsfield for £458.25 delivered, which is I am very pleased about.

no .. but Steve the mechanic doesn't think a new torque converter is needed

Does that come with a new torque convertor?

In my experience if you have a fault with the gearbox which is not electrical but mechanical, any debris will have gone through the torque convertor.

If you are sure the oil was clean when you changed it then it should be ok.

To double check remove the oil pan and check for metal swarf, if it is clear then you will be ok.

I didn't change the oil, Steve did.

He didn't mention metal bits, but did put a magnet into the sump pan just in case.

If there are metal bits around the magnet when we remove the pan, then I'm in trouble, am I?

How do I tell whether the torque c is knackered?

Excellent, I have seen many times people replacing the gearbox without the torque convertor and the debris from the TC has then gone back into the gearbox causing damage and then ur back to square one.

For what it costs...First Time Fix and all that.....

"diamond transmissions" they are in park royal

Great bunch of lads and really know there stuff
