Just madness! They virtually all go barrelling through without barely slowing down. Only the Defender seemed to go through at a sensible speed.

There was a red Polo that also slowed down, but not at any speed is driving through 1ft of water in highway car a good idea.

I suspect they're blasting through that twice a day in those cars. I guess I'll try to be aware if buying a used car from inbetween Mansfield, Newark and Worksop to be aware that could be a car abuse risk.

The thing is that's not even a short cut its only real use is to the park itself or the golf course, pure stupidity 😒

There is one circumstance when it's wise to go as fast as possible through water.

The location reminded me of the incident as it on the way to the Norfolk broads. Some 50 years ago a bunch of teenage lads hired a large boat on the broads which we took under Potter Heighem bridge only we weren't supposed to. There was a pilot to take boats through and he would have told us the boat was too big and refused. The problem was we had to get back again. After a severe bollicking from the boats owner, it was agreed the pilot would take us back through. What he did surprised us, he went flat out as fast as the boat would go on the basis that the boat would drop several inches in the water giving a little extra clearance under the bridge.

Car related content; I spun the mk1 Escort hire car on the drive down. It was a holiday to remember.

Barely a puddle. I’ve driven across lots of rivers in Mongolia without any problems. Slow and steady does it. Only once did we have to take the precaution of removing the fan belt to stop water shooting all over the electrics on a deep and very wide crossing (not the one in my pic).

If you go through deep water have the correct vehicle 🤣🤣🤣

Hmm.... I was thinking more along these lines:

Just shows just how few drivers know how to cross water like that.

Minimising the bow wave is key and then keeping enough exhaust gas flowing to stop the exhaust filling up with water. That said, I’d try very hard to avoid going through water a foot deep in a normal road car. They can easily just float away.
