Has anybody purchased a Duo plus child car seat from MB. I was just wondering how much they cost and what you think of them?

I looked at one recently, they are about £500. They are made by Britax and about twice the price. I decided on a Maxi Cosi Axiss in the end as the ability for it to twist for easy access, sold it for me.

as Tan says - they are a Britax with a merc logo embroidered on - a lot of maufacturers do this with britax seats. Unless you are dead keen with the Merc logo you'd be better just getting a britax.

I have a number of britax seats across the two cars - I have a duo isofix stage2 seat which has been great - the recline mechanism is great and if fits very firmly - it isn't going anywhere when the isofix things are clamped on. It was about £180 iifc

for first stage we had a britax too but I can't remember the name of the model - it was the "top of the range" one at the time - again a great piece of kit - very secure and safe feeling - good quality materials too.

^^ further - I've lust looked up the "duo plus" and yes - that is the one I have.

a very good seat - quite heavy to move around if this is a concern (if you were going to be swapping it between cars for example) but otherwise excellent.

Another vote for Britax, they are very good seats. I don't know if the Mercedes units come with the bits to automatically disable the airbag inbuilt but apart from that they are as said twice the price under the Mercedes name.

Chances are you'll be putting the seat in the back anyway.

Thanks for all the replies. I am buying a new E class coupe and my issue is that I take my little one to nursery each morning. This is why I was looking at the MB seat.

I know this seat disables the airbag when it is installed in the front seat. Does the Merc have a manual override for the front airbag? I know most cars allow you to turn it off and on by the turn of a key. Is the E- class coupe the same?

No they don't, which is really annoying.
Should be a key like every other manufacturer.

I sometimes use a childs seat in my E Class Coupe (on the back seat) and actually find it easier to use than in my previous Audi A4.

Takes a bit of practice but a lot better than I thought it might be. Imagine my delight when I turned to my wife and said, "see, told you it was a practical car!"

We bought ours 6 years ago and I think it was £385 back then, with a discount. That was for the ISO-fix version with auto air bag disabler. You could get non ISO-fix and non auto air bag versions too back then which were cheaper.

We've only used the auto air bag thing once, just to try it. Never had reason to since.

It's cheaper to buy a generic Britax seat, but we've been very happy with ours. So much so we bought an MB Kid when the time came to move up to the next size seat.

Now thats interesting. In what way do you find it easier. This is my concern, every day tring to get in out of the rear of the car to load up the little one. Or do you mean the absence of the B Piilar and the windows down make it easier?

the rear of the car is the safest part of the car for your child to be, with that in mind its the only place given the choice that I put my little one.

Because you have to get in the back as well, you are placing the child in the seat more from the front than the side (if you went through a set or rear doors).

My preferred method is to place one foot in the rear foot well and then rest my knee or the rear centre console whilst placing my son in the seat. Once you try, you will see what I mean.

Only £450 now, a bargain, I'll have one in each colour!!
I reckon the Recaro from John Lewis we bought is just as good at £160.

There was a pad you could buy for £80 that went on the seat to deactivate the sensor, I nearly bought one for my W210, but can't find the link now.

Have a search around.

I completely agree with this actually!

My previous car, a BMW 325 sport coupe - was a doddle to get the kids in to their stage 2 seats (the stage 2, reverse facing is a different matter tho..) and standing one or even both feet into the rear footwell with the front seat folded forward make it remarkably easy to get the little ones into their seat - as said, you are doing it from the front.

It was at least 'as' easy and possibly 'easier' than the 4door W204 C class I have now!

Hi

I have just picked up a Mercedes Duo Plus on ebay for occasional use in my Dad's car, is it possible to buy a replacement cover?

Many thanks

Tan
