Mercedes Benz C-Class Bluetech (2009 - 2012)

What's Good

2009: C 250 BLUETEC, V6 performance 57.7 mpg and EU6 potential

With the C 250 BLUETEC Mercedes-Benz launches its new generation of
4-cylinder engines in 2009. The strong, clean and extremely economical 2.2 litre drive delivers 204 hp and produces a maximum torque of 480 Nm –values which until recently could only be achieved by 6-cylinder diesel powerplants with a displacement of at least 3 litres. These values enable the C 250 BLUETEC to achieve a remarkable driving performance. It accelerates in just 7.9 seconds from zero to 62 mph, reaching a top speed of 152 mph. At the same time, fuel consumption figures are exceptionally low for its class. Fuel consumption is just 57.7 mpg and CO2 emissions only 130 g/km. Thanks to comprehensive BLUETEC exhaust gas purification, the new diesel is as clean as a petrol engine in all exhaust gas components, so that it will be able to comply with a future EU6 standard.
After 2010: C 300 BLUETEC HYBRID with 204 hp and 61.4 mpg

In 2011 the C 300 BLUETEC HYBRID will be the next Mercedes-Benz model benefiting from the unique modular technology concept to enter the market. With a combined power output of 224 hp and a combined maximum torque of 560 Nm, the engine delivers the same performance here as it does in the S 300 BLUETEC HYBRID and the E 300 BLUETEC HYBRID. Due to its lower vehicle weight, the C 300 BLUETEC accelerates even faster (0-62 mph in 7.2 s), while its top speed stands at 147 mph.

Even with such superior performance for a vehicle in this class, the C 300 BLUETEC HYBRID is capable of 61.4 mpg, achieving in the process CO2 emissions of just 122 g/km, the lowest of any vehicle in its class in the world. The extremely efficient emissions control system in the C 300 BLUETEC HYBRID uses – like the E 300 BLUETEC HYBRID – the combination of oxidation catalytic converter and diesel particulate filter from the version of BLUETEC with the NOx storage catalytic converter, giving it the potential to meet even the most stringent emissions standards like EU6 and BIN5.

This is more like it! I wondered when MB were going to catch up with BMW on their engine performance and emissions figures. Unfortunately, the BMW engines are available now:crazy:

New C class based SUV for U.S. 2009 GLK 320 CDI

http://www.automobilemag.com/new_and_future_cars/2009/0611_2008_Mercedes_Benz_GLK/index.html

This will be the "Best" Deutschland will send us next year.

Don't get me wrong...the GLK will far surpass the GL CDI ,ML CDI and the R CDI in fuel economy and performance.(and price ,if what we hear is correct)

BUT your upcoming Uber "C" class CDI 4 cylinder will put it to shame.

I often wonder if it's the greed of MBUSA in Montvale,N.J.('seems like we
only get the leftovers as far as fuel economy. When asked they say the
E320 CDI is fuel efficient enough for Americans [27 in town and 35 on the
road]) or the German cousins still punishing us for WWII?

'Mind you the C 220CDI sold in the UK today
would undercut the E 320 CDI sales in the US;
If it were brought over here.

Are the dates you give definite for deliveries to the UK market as other threads cast doubt on when Bluetec will be available here? Any links that give firm UK dates?

Those performance/economy/emissions figures for the 250 Bluetec are amazing, aren't they?

Maybe we have nothing to fear of the proposed EU CO2 limits after all?

(Of course the ludites will be along soon to moan about ever more technology, bla bla bla)

And not just the luddites either. Mercedes and BMW have both been arguing that the cars to meet the future standards involve a quite unnecessary and expensive and complex level of technology for fairly tiny reductions in total man-made CO2.

have a look at the link below :) gives a rough idea

http://www.drugasmuga.com/content/view/5581/46/lang,en/

Thanks for the link but what it says is: -
"Mercedes' Bluetec-engined cars will be available for purchase in Europe by the end of this year. E-Classes with Bluetec will go on sale in December in all but the UK. Right-hand drive versions are expected at some point in the future, but it is unknown when. "

Yes they are more complex and expensive but the reductions in CO2 are circa 30% - not what I would call 'fairly tiny'.

And what's the alternative if we are to reduce CO2?

I agree the cut in CO2 is significant. But on a world scale unless China and India, Japan and the US all do the same, we get nowhere. Just make our cars and our companies less economic if we aren't careful.

I suppose nuclear gives all the energy we could want and no CO2?

Yes ...and we will be forced down this route..... perhaps 10 years too late ...Perhaps British Energy is a share worth a long term punt....lol..

No investment advice is intended by this post.................

My wife leads a team of engineers for the consultants who have done a lot of the design work for the nuclear power stations we will potentially be building and she's happier to live near a nuclear power station than under power lines.

She doesn't tell me anything before anyone asks, otherwise she'd have to shoot me.

I have spoken to the MB Chelsea today, they say it would be launched in the UK in the end of 2009. They will keep me informed :)

Does she glow in the dark?:D :D

Yes but I think they are just quoting all the blurb about dates for Europe. Nothing from MB so far gives a date for UK. In fact it seems to make a point of not giving a date for the UK.

And the GLK mentioned earlier in the thread is apparently not going to be done in Right hand drive according to Press reports.
