I have a 1998 W202 C200 and as of today, it has developed a squealing noise when sat in drive or reverse, not in neutral. It seems to be only when I'm not accelerating.

I have recently given it a fresh lot of oil and a new filter but can't understand what is going on.
Any ideas?

You need to identify what part of the car the noise is coming from?
If from front of engine could be drive belt noise due to a pulley semi seizing and higher revs masks it. Idler pulley is main suspect and easy change.
Good luck

Piglet stuck in the radiator grille?
Seriously, the idler pulley/damper/belt that whole area can be the source of annoying squealing noises. My 176k mile w202 hasn't suffered yet but the 232k mile s124 has had some work done in this area.
