How many club members here are members of the official Club? And what do you drive?

Just interested to see as it seems far higher membership here, or is the official club seen as a bit fuddy-duddy? Not enough interaction on there?

I am a member of both, and I haven't got my Merc yet, but soon. I'm sure there are members of both clubs on here so be interesting to hear their views.

Personally, I think there is a lot of interaction here as a forum, while the official club arranges meets, outings, as well as tech advice, which is plentiful here!

Cheers,

Jon

Yes I'm a member of both. The 10% comes in handy though.

I only joined the official club 3 weeks ago to get the 10% discount and parts access.
Still waiting for membership card though.

I rarely look at their website and forgot I was a member until this thread started! :D

Ha ha. Yes, that could be a case in point! The gazette is ok but sometimes I think Mercedes Enthusiast is far better. Doesn't have the regional info..if it matters..nor as many cars for sale!! Definite good point.

I'm a member in both and they are very different. The official club arranges many events throughout the year and is a "club with a website"

This is a Website Forum with a couple of big meets a year. You have just missed a great day at Olly's and Jay's bash at Nuneaton is the other one coming soon.

The official club gets you an excellent magazine every month (The Gazette) and "Classic Magazine" 3 times a year. Very good value in my opinion.

For web information this site is far busier and for more modern Mercedes info very good. The official club caters for cars of all ages.

The membership card is issued from Germany so takes a while to get here. Membership also allows EPC and WIS access free of charge...

I was member of the official club and thing that appealed to me was receiving the monthly magazine. After a few years I let my membership lapse unintentionally.

I am a member, I joined mainly for the 10% discount and access to EPC/WIS included.

Cheers mike and everyone else. I agree with each complimenting the other. Hoping to get to meets and events over the coming year. Just a bit embarrassing turning up in my Honda at present!!Lol!

Pretty well decided the SLK, while lovely, will be too small for week trips, so it's R129 SL, CL(if I take the risk) or CLK. Haven't ruled out CLS yet but more browsing to be done. Once the plunge is taken, will be on here..and the OMC more often!!

Cheers,

Jon

Oh yes, choice will be petrol only as only 3-4k miles per annum, and coupe/convertible only.

I joined the official club back in 1978 , when it was the only club for the marque , and before people had computers or this inter web thing .

One significant difference , besides the club being primarily a club and having a web forum as a peripheral , is that it costs , versus the various web forums being free . Something that is free will always have a higher uptake , despite which membership of the club has hovered around 10,000 for many years .

While this web forum is much busier , I would say that the smaller forum on the club site is the go to place for technical advice , especially for older vehicles .

Both are good , neither is 'better' they are just different .

I'm in the Club....! The card got me a free taxi ride in Frankfurt while the AMG specialist looked at my car - and I've just saved 200% of the annual subscription costs on a bill from my local MB service garage. Do it.

Another member here.

All the points above demonstrate how the membership can pay for itself in so many different ways, but the events are plentiful and varied. They can be national, regional, by model range, or even abroad. Over the years, I've taken cars to locations such as Castle Howard, Sandringham House, Blenheim Palace, Brooklands etc, and whilst there, was once treated to a passenger ride in the Gullwing SL that resides at MB World.

Unless you're happy with just an internet fix, there are lots of benefits for the price of the membership, and you can get to meet some great people as well.

Many thanks again for the replies. Yes, I have joined, paid my membership, and already received gazette. A good read and many interesting stories and experiences, as well as articles on models I'm interested in so all good.

I really enjoy this forum and much busy interaction, as per most on-line forums, and I think this is one of the busiest. Having said that, I'm glad to have joined the official Club as well, as when I had a Jaguar in the past I joined the enthusiasts club as well as the on-line forum. Well worth being in both.

Since my buy could be a modern classic or a modern, there'll be plenty of opportunities to get involved in either Club, so very much looking forward to my search.

Cheers,

Jon

I've read Pontoneer's posts and threads and very informative too. Sure I have on the official site too.
Had my card today, so will be taking advantage when I can!
