A moment of your time for some advice please. I am contemplating the purchase of a nice, new E 320 CDi saloon. Having sorted out a test drive for a weekend, the dealer has delayed this on two seperate occasions to date. Having now sold their demonstrator, I am still waiting for them to get a new one in for me to test over a weekend.

One of my colleagues has an old E 320 CDi estate and has commented that the MB dealership seems to have started their usual litany of problems even before I have purchased the car! Is this a usual or unusual state of affairs?

Any comments about MB dealerships welcomed.

The floor is now open...:(

We purchased an E320 CDI saloon and everything went great for us...except the final delivery stage where there was a confusion abt when our car was going to arrive......but apart from that...i have to say...it was top class service.

Dealers do vary, let's hope your one is straight. Mine was first class, but the delivery on them was 6 months.

The E320CDI is well worth the wait however mate.:bannana:

I have never bought a new car from a MB dealer, when I bought my previous car, a secondhand C180 estate, the dealer was excellent in selling me the car and demonstrating it.

My only concern was the pushiness of a bloke there who tries to sell you Supagard paint treatment and an insurance plan to protect the value of your car when you come to trade it in. I was not interested but his attitude almost made me walk away.

The after sales service was not that good and the car was not prepared properly, it had a few niggly problems that were annoying and took ages to sort out.

On the other hand my father has just purchased a E320CDi estate with all the extras. His local dealer at Exeter were not very friendly or helpful and said there was at least a six month waiting list.

He phoned Evans of Leicester and they did a deal over the phone and the garage agreed a price on his current E320CDi estate without seeing it. Delivery was within a month!!

Unfortunately there are good and bad dealers, the bad dealers get more attention and are remembered more than the good dealers. That is why it appears that there are lots of bad dealers.

I would suggest you try a different dealer, one who is willing to help you choose your new car.

Hi Duncan

Not sure which dealer you have been speaking to, but if its isnt Tony Purslow in Basingstoke I would give them a try. Although my car didnt come from them, I have used them recently (on recommendation from someone on here) and the service side of the business is first class. As I've said, dont know about the sales side, but worth a go...

And good to see you know where your towel is...

Cheers

Duncan,

As you're in Hampshire hopefully you're not too far from Basingstoke.

The reason being is Tony Purslows, as Malc has already mentioned.

See numerous references to them under the "Mercedes specialists across the UK ".

Admittedly, I've never purchased a car from them - but if I was I'd have no hesitation in going directly to them. As far as their service goes - 100% impeccable - which explains why people come far and wide (even Birmingham) to have their cars serviced there. I believe (not 100% sure of this) that they have also been voted MB dealer of the year for the past 2 years.

Just my own personal tuppence worth

P.S. - Purslows KICK BUTT

Chaps,

Many thanks for your advice. The bottom line seems to be to give Tony Purslows a shot. As always, there seems to be a mix of good and bad; so a personal recommend is always preferred.

Thanks for taking the time to help a newbie.

Cheers

Duncan

PS Malc - stay hoopy!:D
