Mercedes-Benz Finchley Road

True, I have really fond memories of 'Alan Day, Finchley Road' . Seeing the dealership served as a reminder that we'd arrived in London after a 3+ hour drive from Liverpool. In fact it was seeing those cars behind the glass that made me as an 8 year old yearn to own a Merc.

sign of the times.......that was a truly inspired spot for a car dealership because it is the primary route into central London from the M1.
I wonder how many punters endured a long journey down from the North, ended up sitting in traffic on the Finchley Road opposite AD and decided there and then to swap their car for a Merc?
But now it is a cramped site on the ground floor of a decrepit building that I suspect is being emptied out by the l/lord with demolition in mind.
It is ripe for redevelopment as luxury flats with some retail at ground level.

Yes, I guess the lower sales volumes in those days made premises like this viable. Now it's "pile 'em high and sell 'em (cheap?)", hence the need for large out of town mega-showrooms.

Pendragon run a lot up north under 'Stratstone', some of the the old merc buildings are still empty, but as mentioned gone to pot with the odd sign left, shame

My understanding is that this is exactly what happened.
