Mercedes Benz oil 229.5 amg spec ( c63 ) etc

If you have access to - or a mate with - a Halfords trade card, they are doing all their own brand oils at £11 for 4 litres. That includes their 5W40 full synthetic, meeting MB 229.3 spec. If I didn't have a small lake of oil in my garage already, I'd have some of that.

Lol. So after this mastibate. Is anyone any wiser on the recommended oil for the 156 engine. Surely if the engine has run on 0-w40 all its life why change it. This is a grey area for me. Are some of these dealers changing viscosity for the good of the engine or just because they brought a job lot for half the price.

I've only paid for engine oil within a service once in the last 12 years, and that was my Lotus Elise which needed Petronas 7000 synthetic oil and I couldn't buy it at the time. (With the Lotus being mid engined not all the oil is removed when changed). Pretty ironic eh!

Dunno how much I've saved, oh and I've usually used higher quality oil too, fully synthetic ester based, but unfortunately while it has all the API approvals it doesn't have the Mercedes approval.

Sytner Teesside (Cousins of MB Newcastle) were last using Shell Helix......
