Desperately trying to buy a new alternator for my 1993/4 G 300 petrol

Just spent 20 minutes in my local MB (Solihull)who tell me that they no longer supply this part.

Laddo gave me a number for the "Classic" parts dept of MB Poole.

They close at 14:00 apparently and according to the "press number x for y dept choices on the phone", only supply parts for pre-1985 cars.

The other parts desk choice just rings and rings and rings and rings until it cuts off.

Anyone else had problems getting parts for the more mature vehicle?

Most cases, it's not the alternator that goes bad but the voltage regulator. Try replacing that first as it's usually only a few bucks.

POST UP YOUR CHASSIS/VIN NO AND WE WILL HAVE A LOOK.
best bet is to check out the alternator identification plate it will most likely be a Bosch of some sort and once you have an alternator model no that's another information avenue for repair.

For something like an alternator I wouldn't bother. Probably available from the OE supplier for less, and there's any number of places that will recondition it if you can spare the time.

There is an alternator specialist local to me who just reconditioned my brother's alternator (for a peugeot). It was tested first and found to be $hagged. £70 all in and it looks like new on the outside. If you get stuck, they should be able to do yours.

Your MB P/N is A0081540102

I've been looking at this using the Oe number that Bob has kindly provided, there seems tobe 2 units, I think they are both interchangeable if the pulley's are changed over one is 80amp the other is 90amp. One is a V belt pulley like this via the Bosh site
Bosch Part number 0 120 469 945
MB: 0081547602 (for ref)
90 amp

The Other has a Extended Pulley Which has a Multi rib Belt.

Bosch number for this one is 0120469853
MB:0081540102
But is not catalogued against the w463 via there site
80amp

Check to see what type pulley you have would be my suggestion.
