Mercedes-Benz S Class
Hello,

Mercedes-Benz S Class 2018 comes with two straight 6 diesel engines - 350d and 400d.

Is it the same engine but mapped differently are there any other differences?

Yes, same engine, mapped differently. 400d may have more options available for trim levels and wheels

Thanks!

Great news, so I can remap the engine to gain extra horse power!

PS. I use to have CLS 350d with V6 engine. It was great! Unfortunately some bastards stole it from me!

I think you could remap any engine ;)
I'm sure the straight 6 in the new CLS will have plenty of scope for improvement

Hi everyone,

New to the forum , I have a E350d 2017 and was thinking about a remap to gain a little more power / torque from the beast 🤣

I can see by the info provided that the engine is the same as the E400d , is the turbo or twin turbos rated the same in both cars as well ?as wouldn’t want to damage anything.

Sorry I’m if I’m being a little nieve 🤣 another main difference is the E400d is 4matic as standard and mine is rear wheel.

so in theory could I get the same power output as a E400d from my E350d ? E400d being 340 PS / 516 lb/ft ,and could anyone please recommend a reputable remap company around the northwest that specialises in MB 👍

many thanks

Your E350d is a v6, the 400d is a inline 6, it’s the newer engine.

As a fellow 2017 E350d owner, how do find your car.

Absolutely love it mate , pulls like a train for such a heavy car , hence you really have to put the brakes on when coming to a stop 🤣 but is also really comfortable to drive day to day 👍

so I take it you get more power from the newer type engine ? Hence 342ps for the E400d ?

so if you bought a new E350d would it also be the newer engine ?

many thanks

Yep the newer E350d is also inline 6 just like the E400d. Yes more power, and even more refined then our V6, the user reviews I have read really rate the new inline 6 on these models, especially the E400d.

I previously had a E280sports V6, so I was always going for another V6, I find it just lovely, especially on the motorways, around London road and over speed humps, a touch hard due to the 20 run flats, but those will be changed to NRF, when they are due, but overall very happy, comfortable smooth and refined, and many do comment that you can hardly tell it’s a diesel.

I thought the S350d was a v6 and the S400d a brand new straight six diesel engine?

I think after 2018 all were straight 6, I stand to be corrected though.

Was given a CLS400d as a courtesy a few years ago while owning a w211 E63…
All I can say is the performance was very impressive…
Diesel certainly has come a long way…
