Mercedes Benz Super star MB C3

Cheers. Does it appear to you that the one at £166 includes the software and I can use it with my existing laptop? Not sure what this sentence means.
"It needs active after you install the software"

To me that means one of the following.

Either there are no keycodes installed (simple to get anywhere)
Or, they have protected certain files that require you to give them the code it generates and they supply you a code to activate the system. Again easy to navigate around this.

They both sound similar in that I think they are using an external HD with a VMware image of the running system.

thanks. Just having a look at the Compact 4 . Already trying to upgrade and don't even know what I am talking about. Seems to be £350 for C4. If easier to setup then worth it for me. Hate those days were I spend 7 hours trying to setup something and don't know what I am doing.

I personally own a MB Super Star C3. The difference with the 'Super Star' bit is that you are meant to get free updates for a year. I purchased mine in January, but I think there's been one update since?

Proper Star Diagnosis is updated every 2 months, I just installed "09/10 2014" on our supported machines, so go chase for an update

Understand what you are saying Richard but really just looking for something to plug my 2007 R class into in order to give me an idea. Rather than just turning up a merc garage and letting them empty my bank account. Don't mind paying for what needs done but some people like to charge for what does not need done as they are aware people lack the knowledge to get into their car diagnostic.

The mux hardware is crap on the one from the second link. The first link does not provide enough data to say if it is good or not.

If anybody is feeling super charitable and knows a bit could they have a quick look and see which one they would recommend for me. I'm Not a mechanic just somebody who would like to know what the error messages are when they come up. This german website seems to have lots of options.

The website may be German but the shop seems to be Chinese as pretty much all of these are. See their customs duties instructions and contact info:

Understand where Richard is coming from, he sells these services after all using genuine equipment which costs thousands to maintain.

The catalyst for me buying one was FOUR smashed windscreens over the course of last year, each time needing the rain/light sensor recalibrating. I originally used my dealer at the cost of £100 to add the navigation menu to my cluster after I installed COMAND. After being quoted the same for the screen recalibration, I thought 'stuff this' and bought the C3. 20 second to recalibrate the sensor? I'm glad I bought the unit and used it for the subsequent recalibrations. On top of that, I've it to poke about the car further and add niceties such as cornering fogs and extra stuff in the display cluster. On top of that, I also used it to diagnose a faulty glow plug relay.

I got mine from cardiag.co.uk, a Chinese seller

Seller was actually really helpful, he had a policy of testing the units before they went out (apparently), always kept me informed.
