I have a Mercedes C220 diesel. (1999)

Yesterday the battery came out of the key and when I replaced it the key no longer works.

Not only does it no longer operate the doors, but when I insert the key into the ignition, it wont even unlock the steering lock and therefore wont even turn.

I've tried changing the batteries without any joy. I know that the key is sending out an infrared signal because I can see it with the black and white mode on my camera phone, which makes me think that maybe it justs needs to be syncronised with the car.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks, Dell.

have you tried holding down the lock and unlock buttons at the same time? this reset the key to factory default. If that doesn't work may need a stealer to reset it.

How can you use your camera to check for an infared signal?

If the reason for the batteries coming out is dropping the key that is what US'd mine a three button key £111 a month ago an expensive accident

Digital cameras can 'see' an infared signal. try it

You may just need to do a reset.... hapened with my c class
get in the car hold open button point at the rear view mirror and tha turn in ignition to number 2 position just before it starts
take out and retry it should start working if not try again...
(i think thats the way)
