Ater i replaced top unit, then it does not matter if door is open or closed,i can control what temp i get from the vents.
Actually its how i found out that ac unit works and i can control temp. My mate was having a look inside the car and i told him my heater/ac unit is playing up and cant control temp. He then tried and it was working great,so i thought maybe it fixed itself, but after i closed door and drove off i straight away felt that temp is back to square one. I poped to one garage,a guy i know runs it and he was workin in mercedes for ages. I told him whats up and he said that i should replace that thing with lights up top,by rear view mirror. So i did it and it worked great and still does after car was sold.
I think that switch on the door kinda dissables that top lighting unit when door is opened in and turns another thermometer on somewhere in the car. That is only my opinion though.
