Car
Mercedes c350e estate
I have a c220d 65 plate with 150000 on the clock. The car was purchased Lib September 2023 at 141138 miles.

Car is due an A7 service and have been quoted a lot by Mercedes.

Previous owner didn’t service with Mercedes’ and used a local garage. Mercedes told me I have to change air, pollen, cabin, fuel filters, brake fluid and gearbox service, along with the A service. Price quoted was £950.

Fuel filter was changed at 125000 miles back in March 2022 by a local garage. Do I have to change this again? Gearbox service was done at 80000 miles back in 2018.

Brake fluid was changed in 2020.

Are there any decent independent garages who charges reasonable amount? I’m based in Essex.

I don’t want to give the car to the wrong person due to the very high mileage

Can't you do an oil and oil filter change yourself ?? Seeing as a7 is a major, Inc auto box ,and it was done at 80,000 miles , that's all I'd be having done tbh.

based on the previous model, the gearbox is due every 75000 miles, air and fuel filters are every 4 years, brake fluid every two years along with the cabin filter and of course and annual engine oil and filter change. So work from there.
I would find a local Merc Indy to do the gearbox and farm the simple stuff off to a trusted local garage. You can supply them with the corct fluids if they are unsure.

Consider a service plan

Mb Guildford will do a oil and filter service for £139.

I’m not mechanically minded so I’m unable to do anything when it comes to cars 😢. I’m probably a beta male.

Mercedes have quoted me £900. Contacted a few independent specialists and they are charging the same

Indies charging the same as a main dealer - wow what a rip off and yet plenty here think they are gods gift.

Won't cost more than £500 at an independent all that.
Independent specialists have quoted me £900. George Fraiser quoted £1198. The gearbox service is costing between £400-500. Mercedes quoted £350.

I’m just going to do the A service with brake fluid, air and fuel filter. Mercedes quoted me £620

I know, I was shocked so I’ve decided to stick with Mercedes. I used to go to stevensons in Maidstone but they are charging the same as main dealers 👎

Guildford £139 for the A service, Brake fluid £50 at my indie and fuel filter £50 labour only = £350/400

Mercedes’ told me it’s 77500 miles or 5 years to do a gearbox service.

I don’t think the previous owner did a proper service or looked after the car properly.

The car was purchased last September from v12 sports and classics. Their AA reports are fake and should have had my own AA conducting a vehicle inspection.

Wouldn’t recommend buying from them at all.

The previous owner used cheap parts and tyres. The battery fitted in the car was Halfords make. End of the day, it is what it is 😢

That’s fantastic. Mercedes told me I’d be better off with a service plan, paying £45 a month for two years for two services and two MOT

Would the picture be an mot failure? It was like that when I bought the car but didn’t realise anything.

It appears that way

Mb service plans are only good if you hit on a year where a service like an A7 etc fall inline, otherwise your paying £1200 for 3 oil changes , do your homework. Oh and Halfords batteries are made by a top battery maker , they are good batteries that come with a 5 year warranty. 👍👍

My start and stop wasn’t working and was told I needed a Mercedes’ battery. Paid £300. Then I was told I needed a software update, which didn’t work. Guy told me I needed a voltage converter changed, still nothing.

Went to Mercedes’ and they told me the battery sensor needed replacing.

A lot of the independent specialists don’t know what they are doing. If I stuck with Mercedes’, I would have easily saved £300.

I’m doing A7 in September along with the MOT, following year will be B service. The previous owner didn’t service the car with Mercedes’.

Who told you that you needed a Mercedes battery ?
What makes you think V12 do fake AA reports, we have a V12 outlet nearby and I was looking at changing my car soon.

You could of simply turned off stop start seeing as it's bull s*** anyways and saved even more 👍👍. Your money your choices

I know they do fake reports because they said my start/stop worked when it never did. They said my brake discs were good and they weren’t. The back plate was scraping the discs, making loud noises when driving. V12 aftercare was a joke. They refused to respond to my email or calls.

AA did another car and said the tyres were in good condition. The car failed the mot the next day for inadequate tread. You tell me whether they are genuine or not. The AA report are not from the AA themselves. It’s from AA cars - both different.

Strongly advise you to get your own inspection done to avoid being conned like me

The start and stop never worked. I wanted this to work. The AA report said it was working but that was a lie.
