Mercedes c270 cdi gearbox problems

I had a similar issue on an old 300D - the problem was due to the vacuum in the Auto box being lost, turned out to be a split hose that only showed weakness when turning corners.

The car would slip out of gear and then re-engage as driving along. If you stopped and put it into Park, then it would be fine for a few more miles.

Disappointing is not how I'd describe it. So far its happened once since the car came back. But this has supposedly been fixed.
It's a bad start to my first experience of owning an MB.

I've had the same problem, engine goes into what they call lymp mode , sticks in 3rd gear till you turn off and restart. My box will slip when in 3rd occasionally and you have to slow the car right down for it to latch onto 2nd gear. Happens more if you are in sports and almost always if you drive off too quickly. C270 51 plate. I was told id need a new gearbox, costing more than the car. My local garage is going to do a box oil change to serif that solves it.
I also have a whirring song coming from the gearbox I guess? It seems to be below the gearshift. Sounds a bit like something is flapping about, bit like when something is stuck to a fan. Gets louder as the speed increases and quite when u stop. Any ideas.

Andywall,
Always good to check the quality and level of the Auto Oil first.
Chances are that it needs an oil change anyway.
Let us all know how you get/got on ...

Frustration

I have a 53 Plate C270 CDI Avangarde and I get the same problem. What I have noticed is that the problem doesn't appear until the engine has reached running temperature. I've had the sensors and plates replaced, the ATF and filters replaced 3 times and still it happens. because it only happens when the engine is warm it has me wondering if its all down to the viscosity of the ATF???? and that it needs an oil that doesn't thin out as much when warm???

Rickers mufc - did you get the gearbox problem fixed - and what was the solution? I am about to buy a cheap c270 auto 2003 that has this problem!!!

Hey Andy, a slight thread bump but I have the exact issue with my CLK270 and had the electric pack changed, service and the problem persisted after a week :( just wondering what solution you came to, thanks!..

I was wondering as you had only owned the car for a week you did not take it back to the garage to fix it,or did you buy it as sold as seen privately, the problem with these boxes is that they sometimes do this but do not generate a code,my car will go weeks without a fault then looses the plot when say slowing down for a T junction as then you see you can just turn and go,it sometimes gets stuck in too lower gear, blipping the throttle will cure this and no codes are logged,I like the car so may have to insist my indy changes something because I like a car to be right.
