The car is worth about £12k. It's not a Kompressor and it is not in tip top condition despite the mileage.

As Will rightly says, the classic C215 issue is where steel meets the alloy on the "C" pillar. The boot lid and front wings won’t rust though. The place you need to check is where the rear ‘C’ pillar meets the roof - alloy vs. steel, corrosion there is a bit more of a problem to sort out.
Well said. Encapsulates it perfectly.Let’s be honest, the supercharged ‘55 was a pretty unique engine in terms of power output and performance especially for its time. Even today ~ 500hp/700Nm isn’t to be sniffed at - they were ahead of their time IMHO. Incredible cars back then and still great cars today
But over twenty years ago, the regular 5.4 litre M113 V8 was and still is a decent engine. Very smooth and pretty powerful compared to most other cars of the time, cheap and simple to maintain and pretty much bombproof reliability wise.
Thinking in terms of ‘top trumps’ there’s always something newer/faster/more powerful etc - even in the same chassis you have the turbocharged V12s and let’s be honest the V8s supercharged on not will be out dragged by a moderate EV nowadays (that’s assuming you are able to make progress away from cameras and able to get fuel of course..)
It’s still a nice car, and will not appeal to everyone, but to write it off because later cars have more power seems to be missing the point of collectible/older/interesting vehicles. I’d enjoy it for a clean and tidy low mileage, classic looking MB coupé and leave the 0-60 brigade to it, you’ll only get a tuned Golf R popping and banging past you on the next dual carriageway anyway
It's on £15k at the moment with a few hours to go, don't think it'll meet the reserve though if the owner originally wanted £40k and remains optimistic
