Hi there

Has anyone here done anything with these engines, want to get abit more out of it when I get a remap done, intake system is where I'm looking into.

Stuggerling to find anything online and unsure how to make my own with this silly Y peice with the AFM sensors in.

Has anyone done something with these already?

Thanks

I'm not experienced in this, but don't see the point in an improved intake, as it is pretty good as it is, with cold feed routed to the front grille. So unless you spend lots on it, the performance increase will be minimal.

If you are still considering the intake route, have a look at BMC CDA.

Id be looking at bigger/hybrid turbo and cooler upgrade instead.

Oh right okay, was only thinking of changing its as mapping it in the next few months.

Plus I read of a few USA sites that the y pipe shape does restrict the air where it's oval shape apparently and they way the boxes are on the side of the engine. Plus that stupid oil breather pipe is always coming out. Can't clamp it down as it goes inside the intake pipe and that's plastic, doesn't look like a clip of some pet is missing. So guess mercedes didn't want to leave it held it.

Is there and decent sites to look at updated parts for these, I find it really hard to find anything for these things. Even standard parts or general questions

Possibly the shape of the pipe does somewhat restrict the flow, but I don't think that it suffers too much. I don't think that there will be a noticeable difference.

I don't see many tuned OM642's, so would guess that off the shelf options will be very limited. If looking for turbo upgrades etc, you'd need to speak to turbo specialists.

The tuner should be able to offer a stage 2 remap, ask them what is required for that (it may be as simple as a bigger intercooler).

Yeah I know it's a nightmare to find anything I know it's not normally a car that someone would tune. Yeah they offer a stage 2 and 3

2 requires a dpf delete
3 requires a bigger/better cooler.

No where has said about a egr blank though. Is that not possible on these or just because not many have done it.

What is actually the difference between the normal 350 and my 350? Apparently because mine is the 270 bhp one it's already "chipped" for MB?

Then DPF delete is the most cost effective way in getting more power, that's if you have one in the first place.

There are a number of 350cdi power configurations, I'm speaking from the top of my head here, but I think you can get a 231bhp model and 265bhp.

From what I've read on here, the engines seem to be the same, just with a different map from stock. I think CLS also do a 'Grand' edition, which comes with the Brabus chip (maybe that's what you have?)

Only thing to say is pick a reputable tuner who often works on these types of engines.

I have the 231 in my c class but there is a different block in the 265 I believe as the cylinder sleeves are cooled which allows them to run a different ecu map. I did put a link in here some time ago about this and the engine code is different but may say you can map both to as close as same it the same results

Yeah I have the 270 version and is also a grand edition.

So basically the engine itself is more protected and stronger than the original because of cooler cylinders? How does that work? Thanks

There were quite a few internal (engine) changes when they moved from 231 - 265 bhp. I can't recall them all now, but a search should bring it up. From memory, the Grand CLS was a chipped 231bhp engine.

Your Grand Edition will have a Brabus box fitted from the factory , this is where the extra hp + torque comes from.

Not much more to be had with the Brabus box fitted so you could remove the box and get a bespoke map done on the stock ECU.

Kenny

The Brabus (electronic) box is fitted in the engine bay around the RHS bulkhead area.

I inquired about a tune a few years back and was advised that the only way forward would be to remove the box and carry out a tune to the motor in its base state , whether it would exceed the output of the Brabus box then that would remain to be seen but i figured that it wasnt worth the time and financial outlay for what maybe be little or no gain.

I never find the car lacking in "go" but if the gearbox was quicker to respond to the pedal input then it would make better use of the available hp / torque.

Kenny

Yeah I find that aswell that the 7g gearbox isn't that quick at changing gear or dropping down a gear, even when you do hit the kick down.
