Mercedes CLS Steering Rack issue

Hi all,

New to the forum and looking for some assistance please.

I have a 2015 Mercedes CLS and my car has come up with a Power Steering Malfunction on the dash, I've had it diagnosed and I'm being told that I need a new Power Steering Rack. Now as these are Electronic these don't seem easy to come by. And it seems that seems are charging 3k + vat for one and then I have to get it fitted and re coded also, so I don't really fancy going down that route.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated or anyone who can repair my current steering rack.

I dont know the answer.....but I do know that there are several sensors suppling info to that rack and the ECU.....so are they sure its the rack?....which is quite a simple thing. A torque sensor measures how much force the driver applies to the steering wheel. Other sensors measure the steering angle and vehicle speed etc etc.

Diagnosed by whom, general garage or MB independent/dealer? Did they use STAR/Xentry as the MB diagnostic computer normally drills down to the component level.

Even if it is the rack that's borked, a decent exchange unit isn't going to be £3K, that's for sure.

Nope...... and this was just the first one that popped up on Google.....no doubt better prices can be found.

Thanks all the the replies, I had this diagnosed by an independent garage, I’ve got it going into a Mercedes specialist who have a star machine next week so hopefully they can shed some positive light.

hi guys, pleas help me somebody, my w212(4x4) steering whell have problem, If I drive on a clean road, it works without any problems. id i drive uneven road, or jump some deep,steering whell elctric off, and write me problem

i take out key, waiting 5minutes, after put inside key startup and steering whell working
