Every other W211 or W212 I look at for sale is either silver or black with the typical black interior. Has the UK gone completely bland or something, or is this some sort of a trend?

The W123/W124/W210/W201/W202... all these cars were bought in different colour combo's which gave so much of a choice to a potential buyer. Now it seems its all pretty much just the mundane silver or black.

I think MB went overboard on the Silver Arrows theme a few years back, so many people bought into the silver thing then a few rebelled and went black, the detailing guys started getting insane levels of shine and thus the choices were set, I think white got a look in a bit later. Later purchasers worried about being able to shift something that wasn't standard so we are now left with choices of three!

My current car is black, my last Merc was silver and the penultimate one was black I particularly hate the former because you clean it and then its dirty.

I recall looking at colour options when thinking about ordering a 210 320cdi new (I ducked that bullet and bought a Range Rover instead - in light gray green (Bonatti)), and thinking how dull they all were.

The dealers dont help by ordering stock cars in boring colours. When we ordered the SLK in Fire Opal they tried really hard to get us to have silver or black. "You will not be able to sell it on" etc. Ours all have black interiors though - my preference. Exteriors red - SLK Iolite (greyish blue) - CLK and silver - 124. Brilliant silver really was an excellent choice though. Looked great and so easy to clean that I can easily see why it was so popular. Black has never done it for me as a paint colour though and I would never have one.
