Hi all,

I have just picked up a loan car 2012 w204 and it has the latest comand.

My 2010 c class w204 has Comand NTG4, one of the jobs mercedes will complete is a Map update to 2011/20012 maps? (I am told this is the latest version)

I have noticed the loaner has a Black and red display on the navi screen, will my template change too?

If not how do i get these colours and options! ?

Also additional options like comand online and speed cameras?

Sounds like your loan car has NTG4.5 whereas your car (like mine) has NTG4. Hope you're getting the update as a freebie - I did mine yesterday from a genuine set of MB discs and it took 2 1/4 hours, which if MB charge you their mechanics rate for that time will make you wince - and the full price of the discs is about £150, although they should use their own MB supplied discs rather than charging you for your own set of new discs! Latest update for NTG4 is 2012 V10.0, MB part number A204 827 92 59. I have a set of discs that I will sell for considerably less than MB price - bought them from a member on here, he'd updated his car then sold the discs to me, I've now updated mine without problem.

BTW, I enquired about updating my NTG4 to NTG4.5 to get 7 digit postcode entry - response from Alfie of Comandonline.co.uk was "new Comand unit plus new dashboard" - OUCH!! Decided against that one.

Hi! Yes its still under warranty and they are doing it for free!

So what does it add? No colour changes then? :(

Also very interested in this topic as my one year old C250CDI is in for its first service on Tuesday and wondered if there were any firmware and map updates. I'll obviously check with the dealer when it goes in but I'm not sure how to check the version I have. I'm presuming its NTG4.5??? (what does NTG stand for?)

Yes there are firmware and map updates for NTG2.5 if your car is 1 year old

So tell the dealer to do it under the warranty / free map update program

Talking to the service manager at MB Ashford on Wednesday last, from 2011 all new MB's come with 3 years free updates to the satnav system - so presumably that includes firmware as well as maps/software. If your car happens to be pre 2011, then you have to pay for the updates - and as usual MB really know how to charge. they quoted me over £150 for the appropriate discs - I paid just over a fifth of that!

I recently updated the NTG4 on my 2008 S204 C220 - from the Engineering Menu (press phone hang-up, 1 and # on the main panel, not the steering wheel buttons, simultaneously for 5 seconds to access it) I found that the car had 07Q2 maps installed - it had never been updated even though it had been supplied by MB Ashford, serviced only by MB Ashford, taken in PX by MB Ashford when the owner bought a new car - and sold to me by MB Ashford!

OK, I acquired a set of discs, emptied the CD changer then loaded the first DVD - and it autoran! Took all told 2 1/4 hours, asked me for the second DVD after about 1 3/4 hours, I left the engine running for the first 1 1/2 hours to stop Comand closing down (need ignition on throughout the update) but then connected a battery charger and turned the engine off, leaving the ignition on, and it worked fine.

Nett result - I now have the 2012 maps installed and have a useable set of discs (specific to the W/S204 Comand NTG4) available for sale for a very reasonable price!

Chris. Just to be clear, you broke the copyright law. The disks are licensed for use on 1 system, and no doubt whoever bought them originally used that on their vehicle.

This is exactly the same as buying a music CD, ripping it onto your hard disk and selling the CD for someone else to use without deleting the music.

Everyone else has to pay more as a result, which is probably why they are £150 to start with.

Although, saying that, the newer cars you need a PIN code for, and that costs about the same .. (apart from there is 3 years free updates, which you pay for as part of the car's purchase price so not really free at all)

My MY2012 (Jan 2012) states maps are 2011(v4), but does the engineering menu state what firmware version command is running? I'd like to check if the dealer has updated it or not when it comes back.

Richard, explain the following to me :

I have a Navman F40 with full Europe mapping. A couple of years ago I bought, from Navman, a full Europe update card for £39. As far as I know Navman use the same mapping data as MB - in fact, my old Navman is more capable than my 2008 Comand as it accepts 7 digit postcode.

MB update discs, whether from MB or yourselves, ar £150-250. Porsche PCM satnav update discs are £300+ - yet use the same mapping data. I believe BMW update discs are equally stupidly priced.

Unless the manufacturers who install satnavs in their cars behave reasonably about mapping updates......

Sorry but I think you're just making up a convenient excuse for what is effectively piracy.
