Good morning,

Does anyone have access to the Merc database that can check the date of manufacture of my vehicle using the VIN please.

I’m due to pick my new c class up on Monday but I think the vehicle might be old stock over 12 months old. Which I wouldn’t be too happy about.

Cheers

It's usually on the vin number - get dealer to confirm the build date and then check the vin . So ring the guy that sold you the car
and ask him to tell you and you will confirm come delivery.

Get the dealer to confirm the build date in writing, ie email

I did email the dealer yesterday because I noticed on finance paperwork it says 2023. They just said that they all say 2023 model as that was when it was facelifted. I didn’t think it had been face lifted yet?

However previous experience has told me MY24 means 2023 to middle 2024 build date.

Form says - Mercedes-Benz
C-Class 200 AMG Line Saloon MY24 2023

And also order form says model code 804.054.

The Merc Benz app when clicking owners manual automatically bring up Sep 2023 model year. With two newer version above it

I’m just concerned the car might be new old stock that’s been sat around for 12 months or more. Hence why wanted to see if anyone had access to system to check for me before I go collect as I might not go through with the deal if it’s the case it is new old stock.

The 10th digit of the VIN shows the Model Year (Model year 24 would run from roughly August 2023 to July 2024 production).

  • 2000 and later: The letters and numbers used to indicate model years since 2000 are:
    • Y: 2000
    • 1: 2001

Just ask for the build date and get this confirmed via email then check yourself via vin before signing over all of the outstanding cash.

yep........mine is an A chassis.....so a 2010 model.....but it was built 21.07.2009 and registered in Sept 2009 so a very early built.
For you caravan owners, it works in the same way....the 10 digit of the vin etched/stuck to the windows is the year identifier.....running 1st Sept to Aug 31st each tear....so its possible to have bought a 2025 caravan since 1st Sept 2024.

Hi,
There are plenty of VIN checkers on the net that will give you exact build date along with full build specification.
If you let us know the VIN number - happy to look it up for you

Yes I’ve got the VIN and the 10th digit is R so 2024 according to above.

I rang the dealership earlier for clarification as I couldn’t wait for an email response. Apparently it was built in 2024. They said that on paperwork sometimes it can say MY21 for a brand new 2024 car.

Can’t say I’ve seen that before because I’ve had numerous Audis and the MY always starts in the year before and rolls into the following. Sometimes even with a .5 like (MY24.5)

It all just seemed seemed abit weird with loads of things pointing to it being a 2023.

For example my model code is 804.054.

When you look at all the brochures they stats MY803, MY804, MY805 which seems to correspond to Model years 2023, 2024, 2025 along with production start dates.

That’s what starting me off thinking it might have been old stock waiting around.

If its an R chassis than its def a 24......but it could have been built as early as Aug 23....but its still a 24 model year car registered in 24.....and thats all any one will look at when valuing it as a part exchange when you chop it in.

I’ve tried all the VIN checkers online and nothing shows up. Probably too new.

The car isn’t even being registered until next week.

Yes the value part isn’t an issue.

It more the vehicle just sat there doing nothing for 12 months etc.

This all stems from a previous car I had that was built 12 months before it was registered and I had nothing but issues with it. Probably just a coincidence but it can’t be good for a car just to be sat there for over a year.

Condensation, corrosion, fluid deterioration, tyre flat spots etc.

My main concern re a vehicle that had sat still for 12 months would be the tyres ( and you can look at the sidewalls to see the year and week of production , any of the tyre places explain the codes on their websites ) .

If parked outside there is the question of exposure to UV , but more importantly if they have been parked up all that time they could have flat spots .

Similarly items like drive belts having lain still for a year could be a bit iffy .

Modern radial tyres dont really get flat spots......not like the old cross plies. And if they do, due to lack, of pressure they will usually disappear after a few miles of driving (at the correct pressures) has got some heat into them.
