Mercedes dealers need advice

If you bought this car from a Mercedes-Benz main dealer then I would not get to involved in technical issues.

Here are a few extracts from the main Mercedes-Benz UK site

To give you maximum peace of mind, every Mercedes-Benz Approved Used car is inspected by a trained technician. The inspection covers all mechanical and electrical components, the bodywork, interior, tyres and wheels and each car is thoroughly road tested before going on sale.

Furthermore you’ll receive a copy of the technicians check sheet.

Should you not be satisfied with your car for any reason, you are entitled to exchange it at any time within the first 30 days or 1,000 miles of ownership (whichever comes sooner).*

* Terms and Conditions Apply

At the moment I get the feeling you are not happy with your purchase and I'm sure the Exchange program is there for just this situation. Don't get involved in any technical issues unless you know what your talking about but I am suspicious about the dealer that tried getting you to replace the disc's and pads! Perhaps they are warped or damaged but I doubt it as this would have been mentioned and you would have felt the symptoms of a warped disc.

Good luck resolving this issue

Regards
John

Disc's on my 2003 car have been 'lipped' since I bought it (@14K miles), has been an advisory at every service over the last 2 yrs with a 'just wait till the brake pad light comes on and change the whole lot then' which I will do..hasn't happened yet. Pads have not been advised as 'needing' replacement for service or MOT..

By the way have done 56K miles since I bought the car 4 yrs ago, if they havn't reached minimum thickness I see no reason what they should be changed (although last time pads wre changes at 20K miles the lip had been the bit that cut the pad wear sensor wire, pads actually had a lot of meat left).

Personally, wouldn't worry about it (althouth woithout seeing them its hard sto be sure).

Good point about only using 2mm since new , he told me they would be ok until next service which is may 2009.
Will bring this up when i pick the car up this afternoon.
Thanks for all your help.

what ever happened to having discs skimmed like on the ford escorts etc etc
my last merc did 145k when i sold it on the same discs!

Fair enough - he doesn't want to replace disks with only 2mm of use.

However, explain your concerns (that you've been told two completely different things by two MB garages), and ask him to agree to replace the disks free of charge, as and when they do run out.

If he refuses then explain that because of your concerns you are no longer happy with the vehicle and would like to exchange it under their scheme mentioned above.

I'm sure he won't want the hassle and will agree to the relatively low cost (to them) option of replacing your disks for free at a later date.

I went to collect my car this afternoon with the service guy still saying he would not change my discs , when i got there i went straight to the salesman who sold the car to me and told him what had be going on after a two minute chat with his boss he came back and told me they are going to fit new discs .
So all is well in the end , car booked in at the end of the month .
Thanks again to everyone here for all there help and comments ....

They have a happy customer for the cost of a pair front discs. Good decision.

Glad to hear it worked out, its just a shame that they put you through a load of stress in the first place.

The good thing is that you found MBClub, and all of the good people on here can help you with all of your future needs, such as Comand, Ipod's tyres etc etc

Welcome.

Sales will be picking up the tab for this. Things like this should always be negotiated into the buying price, Salesmen are weak so give in easily.

When I worked at a VW dealer, I could never understand why the cars were never inspected prior to selling. This way they could be priced accordingly so the sales would not get any nasty surprises once sold.

They seem to get away with selling cars that perhaps need work doing to them and some months down the line the warranty will not cover wear and tear stuff like the brakes.

Nice one for getting it sorted.
