Mercedes driver - how not to win friends and influence

tasn , its a shame you think like that , the SL63 driver is selfish , everyone has paid their money for the day and wants to have fun. To be honest he isn't a particularly good driver , and is actually driving pretty dangerously.

Any idiot with a **** load of power can win a race on a straight section of road , but if you can't handle the twisties , move out of the way.

He blocks them in the corners ( when they could conceivably overtake him as their cars handle better , can brake later etc )

And then gives it the beans on the straights where they don't have enough power to pass him , thereby keeping them behind.

He's lucky someone didn't chin him in the pits.

I'm having trouble seeing what the problem is here, particularly the dangerous elements, I really don't understand day etiquette. It seems to me that the camera car has opportunities to overtake at at least one point?

Is the point to 'race', as in beat another car or a target lap time, or enjoy ones self?

In this scenario it would seem that the SL and the camera car would both need to slow down at some points to let the other pass?

Stwat has summed it up pretty well.

It's not a race.

The last thing anyone expects on a track day is a car on the other side of the track approaching a corner to suddenly cut across them.

Just etiquette.

Fine if no one is around you , practise your entries and exits , but when other cars are approaching from behind on a different line , don't cut across. No one wants contact.

It's an SL63

Of course...:D

I'm surprised he hasn't posted on here saying there were all these jealous paupers that can't afford a '63 kept ballsing up his trackday....but he had the guts to blow them off...

On current models with LED brake lights, they flash to alert the following driver to heavy braking (the equivalent of putting your hazards on when braking heavily for a queue up ahead.)

having seen the porsche cup on telly their brake lights flash all the time i think it's possibly the refresh rate of the camera :)

I would have thought he would have been flagged for his driving and had a word after that.

Anyone can go quick in a straight line no skill at all on a track.

He should have moved over, backed off to be honest and then have a drive in his 'own' space.

Nightmare driver, when I used to do a little bit of testing of my old Ford Escort XR3i Challenge race car I would catch Ferrari's, Porsches, Evos etc in the corners but down the straights I'd be left standing, would have gladly given that driver a little kiss down the side under braking, no doubt it's quicker down the straights but my 1600cc group N Escort would have murdered it on the corners and braking.
No excuse about first time out, the rules are drilled at you in the morning compulsary driver brief, "if a car comes up behind you either once you exit a corner or down a straight, you indicate and move to your right, overtaking is on the left only and not in corners, only on corner exit"

The Merc driver has absolutely no idea about the racing line. If he did he could have carried a lot more speed through the bends. He doesn't know how to drive. Clearly he needs lessons on racing lines and track etiquette. :wallbash:

obviously there are some on here who need track briefing! or should not go on a track day!

he should have let the faster cars overtake, its not a race and because he didnt he almost caused several crashes!

Sorry, I'm thick. I don't do track days, but what exactly is the problem in this clip. Seems like a few people using the road, and not overtaking when they have the opportunity?
Have to agree I've seen far worse than that. The Caterham or whatever never really tried in my view. I think the Merc did rather well!
And before you start yes I've been to LOADS of track days.
