Car
VW Sharan 1.9 TDI, Audi 80 1.6 TD - wish I still had a Benz!
I have owned this car for the last month or so and I honestly cannot fault it. The only reason that I am selling is because my wife prefers the VW Sharan to the merc! I will be picking up the extra two seats for the boot (this Saturday) including all fitting and fixtures and I will be including it in the sale. I'm being a little lazy so I have copied and pasted the advert that the previous owner had written. Please feel free to give me a call, text or email for more info. I have only advertised on this forum for the time being because it should go to a merc enthusiast. I will be adding photos in due course. I have priced the estate to sell and I honestly do not think that you will find such a good condition car with this spec for this price.

Price: £3,495 (for forum members)

Very nice, clean, well-maintained, unabused Mercedes E320CDI Elegance Estate
Tansanite Beige Metallic with Java Leather trim.

I looked for a nice one of these for quite some time, finding that most sellers seemed to lack the ability to truthfully describe the heaps of worn-out and abused junk that they were selling. I bought this car when I needed a proper load-shifting estate car to carry my late wife, her wheelchair and her medical equipment. Sadly she's no longer around and it looks like I'll be spending most of my time working abroad from now on. I'm a bit of a Merc nut and have a small collection, most of which I'll be selling on now. I bought myself a new left-hand-drive E Class so although I'm really sorry to see it go, this one has to find a new home. A pal of mine used to have a sign in his garage that read "He Who Dies With The Most Toys Wins" ... but sadly I have to dispose of some of my toys.

This one has run like a dream, it's literally never missed a beat, has started first time every time and has clearly been looked after. It's got bags of "go" and the gears all shift smoothly. It's got just over 121k on the clock (my last one of these with the 3.2 I6 common rail diesel did over half a million miles!) and has a full service history. It's about due for a service now though the indicator says there's plenty of mileage to go yet.

For those in the know, a sign of a good Merc is that it has all the toolkit, the warning triangle, first aid kit, bolts for the spare wheel etc. This one has all that, in pretty-much unused condition. It's got nice clean carpets, nice clean seats in good condition, all the switchgear is good and electrics are ok. It doesn't seem like it's ever been smoked in. The carpets are clean, including inside the tailgate

The car has returned on average about 42mpg over the last 2500 miles which are a combination of country back roads near where I live, motorway, A roads and a few excursions into the city. I've never caned the car (I have an SL600 V12 for that!) and find that if I put the cruise in at 60-70mph on the motorway I can get nearly 50mpg out of it. It had a new high capacity battery about 6 months ago. It's god good tyres all round. The two offside alloy wheels are A1, the nearside ones have a bit of kerbing on the edges, though the face of the wheels is fine. The car has had 2 previous owners.

It's got a great spec, as follows:

  • Xenon HID headlamps
  • Heated and cooled (air conditioned via the perforated leather) front seats
  • Java nappa leather
  • Glass slide/tilt sunroof
  • Cruise control
  • Upgrade automatic dual zone climate control
  • Parking sensors front and rear
  • Comand satellite navigation with a working disc
  • AM/FM radio with CD multichanger in the boot
  • Electric memory drivers seat
  • Orthopaedic drivers seat with the pneumatic side bolster control and lumbar support. As someone who's had a bad back in the past, I found this a godsend.
  • Auto Dim rear view mirror
  • Alarm / immobiliser with two keys
  • Multi function steering wheel (control the radio etc)
  • Self-closing tailgate (which works)
  • Load area cover and dog guard (all in good condition)
  • Headlamp washers
  • Automatic Summer and Winter (higher change points) and tiptronic
  • Electric windows
  • Electric control mirrors
  • Folding mirrors

As you'd expect with an 11-year-old car that's done over 120k miles it's not perfect. The bodywork is much better than most of these I've seen, though there's a few stone chips, scuffs and light scratches (most of which would polish out), there are a few rust bubbles on a couple of wheels arches though nothing major. There's a bit of a scrape under the front bumper (though only visible to someone whom you're running over, I guess) and a bit of a ding in the rear tailgate. I also think the previous owner had sweaty palms, as the leather cover on the steering wheel could do with re-connollising (if I'm being really picky) though I never got around to doing this

All in all it's a good, honest, clean car. There's just under 12 months MOT and road tax till the end of next June.

Extra two seats (including seat belts and fittings) for the boot were collected today and will be included in the sale.

Price reduce to £3,295.

Come on, you know you want to...

Sold to very nice gentleman. I hope he enjoys it.
