Mercedes E55 AMG 1998 - Reduced but Cat B

I can't imagine the insurance company being too impressed when you ask them for a quote on a cat B.

It obviously says it on the logbook or HPI check, otherwise how does the owner know?
Why tell everyone if it's not recorded anywhere?

?? Logbook, hpi insurers don't check that and I don't think they have those infos anywhere or someone is stupid enough to tell them LOL

On the bottom of the front page of the logbook it says if it was a cat ?
HPI checks tell you if it had an insurance claim.
The car in question must have a record or why is the guy selling it "stupid" enough to declare it on his advert?

Did U read my post?Stupid to say it to insurers.....sorry if I haven't made it clear enough.I don't think even when quoting online there is a Q asking if the car is a write off

They have a thing called a database, that has information on it...Hence the name database.
Also the bit where insurance companies tell you that they share information, my mate crashed his car and they wouldn't pay out because it was a cat D and he didn't tell them. He didn't tell them because he didn't know because he didn't read the logbook.
He had the logbook at home so how do you think the insurance company knew it was a cat D?
The seller of the 55 states it's a cat B, now either he is incredibly honest or incredibly stupid OR it shows up on an HPI check and is written on the logbook, so he is declaring it because he has no choice.
If it's not recorded why would he mention it?

If you have an accident??

Ok
My previous c36 cat C insurers didn't even ask and quote was fine nothing crazy.
Looks like logbook and Hpi yes they will show this as there was a claim but don't think all insurance company's would know that the specific car was involved in accident.Driver is being insured not a car right? Why we should pay for some ones reckless driving?

Because when it comes to paying out, you could well find your insurance void if they look at the logbook and see a Cat that's not been declared...

Your experiance I belive
So we drive, enjoy the cars we owe to get a pay out from insurance. Each car I buy I need to bare in mind that I will crash it.....I'm getting paranoid now :)

Lol no, I've never owned a car with a Cat on it - but I have had both of my last cars paid out due to non fault's on my part. Just because you don't think you won't crash/get nicked etc doesn't mean you want to risk your cover in the case it does happen. If you buy a car, and it's got markers on it for whatever reason, it's your obligation to make those known to the insurance company. If you don't, and you ever need to claim (even on non fault), you could end up with a nasty surprise.

Not only that, but the insurance company will refuse your cover, and you'll be marked on a national database that all insurers have access to as having been refused cover.

In the long run, would it all be worth it? If people don't like it, don't buy a car that has that kind of history, or declare it if you do - simple really.

Why would anyone buy this?

It's Cat B, about the same sort of money as a straight one, and last got serviced at MB 9 years ago...

Would be a nice donor for my w140-amg engine, box that would be cool
