Can anyone recommend a good Mercedes Remapper.

Wanted to get the Wifes A200 Turbo remapped :D

A turbocharged petrol will still see some handsome gains.

Normally aspirated and supercharged petrol engines don't respond as well to remapping.

Nothing exceptional then? Seems the norm, many promise this gain

I've had the 335d remapped with DMS. They do have a good reputation and I've been very pleased with their results but most of the remappers will give similar levels of improvement. Any of them could give a higher gain but they balance performance against economy, driveability and reliability.

How did that affect your insurance? And your warranty?

The insurance went up by about 10%. On my £800 premium it was £80 extra.

DMS are one of the few remap companies who offer a warranty in the event of the manufacturer refusing to pay out for a fault caused by the remap. Reading various car forums no customers have ever actually had to put this to the test. So many 535d/335d owners have had their cars remapped now without any problems that I was happy to take the risk.

The best for Mercedes are Brabus surely? You have to tell insurance, of course, and there is a guarantee problem if the car is under 3 years old.

The car is a 2006. Warranty until sep 2010 was part of deal i agreed with Mercedes.

I would inform insurance ofcourse.

Didnt think remaps were tracable anyway?

I would have thought the A200 turbo is already mapped up to its eyeballs with 0-62 in 7.3 seconds (quicker than an S320cdi).

It is pretty quick.

Maybe its me then.

Suppose im used to my Supra which has over 500 Bhp.

Not normally as manufacturers are very conservative to deal with hard abuse in harsh conditions with low quality fuel most of which we don't have to worry about in the UK.

That was my thinking too.

Although Turbo chip claim to make the vehicle more economical too due to a 25% increase in torque!

Yep, I've found the 335d slightly more economical since having it remapped.

e-maps have a good reputation on other forums too.

I would take that claim with a very large pinch of salt. Seen so many threads here and in US where owners say they get nothing like the claimed improvement in performance.

Baffles me where you all think it is worthwhile in the UK.

Believe it or not 190bhp is a relatively mild state of tune for a 2.0 litre turbo.

Hot hatches - which are almost certainly built to stand the same amount of abuse as an A200 (probably more given the way it's likely to be driven) - can comfortably produce another 40-50bhp out of the factory. They're just as mild mannered to drive too albeit things like throttle maps may be more aggressive.

Plus if you're prepared to run the risk of earlier failure of the turbo and other gubbins, you can crank up the boost, and boost means prizes. I mean more BHP.

A good tuner will make claims they can deliver on, and charge appropriately.

A less good (?) tuner will claim the earth, charge bottletops, and deliver little.

Of course there are some who will claim the earch, charge the earth and deliver little!!
