I am a carer and my current car has died a death. I want a bit of comfort and because of my job I deserve something that looks nice (haha).

I have seen 04-06 C180's for sale both 3 and 4 doors. Some with full MOT's and according to the dealers no rust !

e.g. Auto Trader logo

I only do about 4k miles a year mostly short journeys with the occasional trip to Cornwall..

Are these cars good ones for that sort of reliability and mileage ?

Is the 3 door better / worse ?

any advice

cheers

That particular car does look in decent order bodywise, but take a dealers quote that a W203 has no rust with a pinch of salt. A W203. like the W210 E class is known for rust in the wheel arches, wings, bottom of the doors and around the bootlid in particular. Check every car carefully.
Another problem with this model, and any other fitted with a M271 engine is the single timing chain fitted and worn timing sprockets causing chain slip and an expensive repair.

Plenty of decent older Mercedes Benz C class about.
I would opt for a petrol one with a decent history, one that has been cared for.

All cars can be expensive to fix if they go wrong.

Treat yourself and buy an MB, just buy carefully, as for doors I guess that depends on you and your life style. Do you usually drive on your own or with three passengers ?.

Isn’t that the 180 with the dodgy timing gear?

You can get any rustbucket for £2000 grand.
Pick a late MY and fully serviced with book

i think if you want reliability you should pick the 2.1 cdi version or a Toyota Avensis

Great suggestion.

It must be like driving round in a library but I still see plenty of Avensiseeees driving around.

Must be as reliable as a block of granite.

Are you comfortable working on cars yourself?
