Mercedes ipod interface

Does anyone know if the Mercedes iPod interface sold for the W211 works with Audio 20 (CD variant) or does it need command?
As far as I can see it connects via the muti- pin connector on the back of the head unit.

i can't speak for the w211 version, but the one i bought for the w203 works without comand, it's controlled via the instrument cluster.

You need COMAND on the W211 for the MB iPod kit, as you need the auxiliary input. See here:

Not on a pre MY09 W211, as only Comand has an aux input which the ipod interface requires. The mCar interface however will work with the Audio 20: http://www.comandonline.co.uk/mcar_umi.html

Or you could upgrade to the newer NTG2.5 based Audio 20 which does have aux input, it supports the ipod kit and media interface.
