Mercedes Key and seperate black item???

I found this black item in the glove box in my 1998 mercedes benz w140 s280 and I dont know what it is. I’ve seen some pictures of it online but I can’t find out what it’s called and what it does. Please can someone tell me

I think it silences it if it goes off inadvertently.
