I thought the vehicle needs to have a full MB service history and no resprays.

Also, I think if they see a vehicle does not have a full MB service history, then the vehicle must have a full service history with no blanks.

    Regards

Lifetime corrosion and perforation warranty is not worth the paper it's written on. The car must have a yearly 'body and paint' checks, I guess alongside the service history, but service history has nothing to do with the bodywork. And no previous re-sprays or any form of re-work.

Think you should check out Fords warranty on this and it will make you laugh...

I had my CLK done after 7 years of ownership, I did not maintain a FSH with MB. I stopped using them when my 3 year contract ended and they paid for all my repairs to all the arches . They just used there camera to ensure the car had not had any third party repairs to the paint.

So that confirms, SH is not required and it can be done without any yearly body and paint health checks...

Although I think MB may have become more "selective" when dealing with rust warranty claims in the past 18, months, it most definitely was possible to claim even if a car did not have FMBSH.

My car had rusting front wings when I bought it. The S210 had a Full MB History up until the last service before I bought the car, (this was carried out by an ordinary garage, used by the previous owner).

However, I reasoned that I wasn't in control of the service history before I bought the car and that I'd use MB for servicing in the future.
(There was a sign in the bodyshop office stating "Strictly FMBSH and at least 6, months ownership of any warranty claim vehicle to qualify for work to be carried out").

The replacement of both front wings was authorised, and whilst the car was being inspected, MB Manchester spotted a small spot of rust on the tailgate (I hadn't noticed this) and agreed to replace the tailgate too. The only contribution I made towards the repair was around £50 for the tailgate stop-light, which apparently always breaks when removed.

MB authorised mine too, serviced by MB up to 3 years old & then by an Indie. Both sides resprayed when rust bubbles appeared at 5 years old.

See my other threads on this - have had 2 lots of wheel arch repairs on my C Class in past 2 years - both classed as good will - and car is nearly 10 years old.
Just about to go for my third attempt at getting the work done properly!

If say you had had the drivers door resprayed, but not by MB, and the front Ns wing rusted, would MB turn this away?

    This is hypothetical.

What they don't mention is that the lifetime is that of a mouse, so expect rust after 3 years.

Do not confuse ''warranty'' with ''goodwill''.

The 30yrs. warranty requires full MB service history and is for ''inside out'' corrosion which is demonstrably not the result of third party influence or external forces. Only a hand full of claims in the UK have been successful and only after the commencement of litigation so far as I understand it.

Goodwill claims over recent years have been subjected to tightening criteria by MBUK and being goodwill they are entirely at their discretion. A number of factors are considered but none are exclusively nor rigidly applied......it may depend upon how MBUK's ''corrosion'' budget is stretching in any given financial year.

    Some criteria are:

    MBFSH and/or independant specialist history.
Length of ownership of the vehicle....newly acquired will work against.
    Accident damage......paint thickness tests.
    Wheels are not bodywork.
    Upto 8yrs. old.

These are not cast in granite but if you tick all the boxes it helps as does robust support from your main dealer. So if you have not been with the main dealer net work for a while, in theory it should not work against you, but human nature being what it is you are more likely to get the support you need if you are a known customer.

Hi I've owned my car from new, it's got a full mb service history from supplying dealer. I was told bodywork is 3 years plus 5 years goodwill. After that basically your on your own, 30 year warranty applies to chassis only. This is what Robinsons Mercedes of Norwich told me last year when I tried to get rear arches done, at that time the car was 9 years old so the answer was no. Previously before the car was 8 years old, they had done all the paint work claims without a problem. I think the chance of Mercedes re-spraying anyones car for 30 years is extremely unlikely!

Mercedes say no if you do not have FMBSH. My claim was turned down because the previous owner had the first service done outside the dealership. I have owned my ML for 6 years (car is 7 years old with total milleage of 47000) and I have had all the servicing and repairs carried out in that time by my local Mercedes dealership, I also subscribe to their service plan.

The "Lifetime Corrosion Guarantee" merely guarantees that your Mercedes will rust during its lifetime. The irony of the situation was that until the crash in 2009 and before the 6+ labour rate discounts, you could have saved enough to afford a respray by going outside the dealer network for your normal servicing. 15 years ago, they skimped on the steel and corrosion protection hence the w210 and w202 rust issues.

Do a search on the forum.....MB fixed and re-sprayed my W202 several years ago. All I did was take it in and complain, having owned it (2nd hand) for less than 2 months.
I think the car was 5-6 years old at the time, and had a 90% MB history. It was sold to a member here as well.....

Viano corrosion warranty is 12 years. Had the complete rear door taken back to metal, resprayed and new badges. Same goes for the Vito.
