Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but it seems like the most sensible place for it.
I have bought a mercedes E350 convertible 2014. It has sat nav (tom tom) but subscription has run out. It looks like mercedes.me might solve this problem but their website is pretty poor, or perhaps i'm pretty thick. I understand that a dealer has to activate the system, but i'm not sure what the benefits are, how it works, what it costs etc. will the satnav be updated with new maps (i;m guessing not), will the sat nav live traffic work? how does the tidal subscription work? will it only work in the car? can it work in the app on the phone when at work?

really don't understand it.
I'd be greatful if somebody could answer these questions, or point me in the right direction

Assuming that the subscription you're referring to is the Live Traffic one (note that this doesn't relate to the cartography itself, just the traffic information) then you will need to create a Mercedes.me account and associate your car to it before you can purchase a new subscription.

The first part is easy: Follow the instructions to create an account on the Mercedes.me site.

Associating your car with the account may or may not require the involvement of a dealer. If the car has never been associated with a Mercedes.me account by a previous owner, then you should be able to make the association yourself, although when I did this with my wife's SLK some while ago I did need to phone the Mercedes.me help number for them to complete the association; if the car is already associated with someone else's account then you will need to visit a dealer and get them to change the association - take proof of ownership / that you are the registered keeper (e.g. the V5C) with you.

Once that's all done you can purchase a Live Traffic subscription on the website. It doesn't need a Mercedes.me adaptor in the car to be provisioned, as the car has it's own comm's module.

If you need to update the cartography then you will need to purchase an Activation Code (from the dealer's parts dept.) and the relevant cartography disc(s). You can then update the car's mapping yourself. Alternatively, many dealers run special offers every now and then and will update the maps for you for a fee.

Sorry, can't help on the Tidal subscription.

I thought a 2014 Mercedes would be too old for the "real" Mercedes Me. Perhaps you can update the SDcard for new maps?

It is (so thinking about it the Tidal subscription question is irrelevant as the head unit doesn't support OTA streaming like the latest MBUX-equipped cars), but to purchase a Live Traffic subscription in the UK now you have to have a Mercedes.me account with the car associated to it.

The C207 (E-Class Convertible) is based on the W204 (C-Class Saloon) and will have COMAND NTG4.5 Gen 3 (aka NTG4.7).

The car will have the KOM Module with the built-in Vodafone sim card giving it 3g Internet connection.

The KOM Module was only introduced in mid-2013, and while on later cars it supported a range of Mercedes.me services, on early card the only Mercedes.me service available will be the TomTom Live Traffic Data subscription.

So, as st13phil said, you need to create a Mercedes.me account and register the car VIN. You should then have the option to renew the TomTom Live Traffic Data subscription for one, two, or three years.

If you car's VIN is already registered on Mercedes.me (e.g. to previous owner), then you'll need to go an see a dealer with your V5C and some form of ID.

On another note, I recomend getting the dealer to upgrade the firmware on the COMAND unit, and the maps (current version is v19.0).

I got given a “free” MM when I purchased Boris.
Can’t actually see it does anything other than tell you when a service is due as it’s really geared up for the more modern techie stuff. I had a BMW 3 series which I got rid of 4 years ago and their software was miles superior even then.
Probably tells Mercedes loads of stuff no doubt lol.
I certainly wouldn’t bother paying for it on an older vehicle (mine is a 204 2013)

That would be the Mercedes me Adapter... which is a free retrofit and different to the Mercedes me service that was bundled from the factory with later cars (from around June 2013).

Yea..forgive my ignorance, bit new at all this Merc stuff :)
Learning though!!

And its pretty useless really
That depends on what your expectations are... for me, it does a good job of logging my journeys.
