Hi I wanted to ask if you’re surprised that RAC is now in partnership with RAC and what are your thoughts. They also have silver vans. Thought that majority of car manufacturers go with the AA and they have silver vans, depending on what the car manufacturers contract stipulates. We have a lexus and the normal yellow vans come. When we had the VW it was the rac with silver vans but now it’s the aa with silver vans.

Well my thoughts are silver vans look prettier than yellow but it stops there ;-)

Mobilo standards have dropped significantly since they have now outsourced to RAC.

may as well just pay for breakdown cover independently from another provider and use an indie for servicing.

Using a franchise dealer to maintain Mobilo has lost its value imo. (If there really was any in the first place)

from recent experience they’re painfully slow and they don’t have the knowledge or kit that the MB service vehicles had before the change.

they will of course still direct you to the nearest dealer after recovery for £140+vat! For diagnosis.

I never got the mobilo deal. The premium of having to stay in the dealer network and pay dealer rates never made it financially viable inmho. Far better buying breakdown cover on its own and finding a good independent for servicing.

I think that abroad Mobilo support are MB Technical guys using MB vans and equipped with MB knowledge. So if one travels abroad, it's maybe still worth sticking with Mobilo.

Those that think you have to stay in the dealer network to get mobilo are incorrect. You simply have to get a service done at 'an authorised service partner' i.e anyone that is allowed to update the digital service record. I use an indie and my mobilo status is confirmed in Mercedes Me, i've also confirmed it directly with MB.

There is no need for a separate breakdown policy if your indie can update the DSB

I use an indie who has the full kit, but indies are not authorised service partners.

There used to be loads of them - they were the old dealers from when MB reorganised the network, but there's very few left now. This is one: Used Cars Criccieth, Second Hand Cars Gwynedd - Regent Volkswagen

When I used a Southampton Indie for my last car, the DSB was updated but it didn’t give me Mobilo cover.

I'm not surprised to read other people think the RAC are shyte.

I've never heard of them coming out quicker than 4 > 6 hours over the last probably 35 years - that's probably somewhere in between half a dozen to a dozen times.

Every other company I've ever used have been way better.

They left my other half stranded alone once on a bridge over the M25. I left straight away to meet her unbeknown to them and it still took 4 hours. Bloody great.

I've always got my own breakdown regardless of Mobilo.

I didn't know about the above service situation but I understand they take the car to the nearest MB dealer.

I use an inde for my car so I have no intention of being stitched up main dealer prices and would rather recover my car to the inde.

It'll certainly affect my decision on servicing when my plan ends. I've used Mobilo twice in the past and the service was excellent but now the RAC have their hands on it I'm not too sure

That sounds right, Mercedes own web site states............"Cover is also available for customers with cars registered from 24 October 1998* and is automatically activated/renewed on completion of a service by a Mercedes-Benz Retailer."

Mine is also serviced by an independent and mobile is still current. The place I use was in the past a franchise mb dealer so maybe that's the difference. I would also admit to the fact that the labour rates are not far off the main dealers but the dealer local to me are a bunch of incompetent ar*#holes, hence I choose to go elsewhere.

In the past, we've received good support from the RAC, but haven't been members for a few years now. We've only needed Mobilo support once in 13-years of owning MBs and the response was excellent.

I agree, the mobilo service weren’t that brilliant took ages for them to come. But when we had RAC they weren’t too bad. VW were also good. But now having a lexus with personal cover and having a nominated person for free is brilliant. You can be a driver and passenger and you’re still covered. Plus having 2 for 1 warranty is brilliant and it includes aa cover is a nice bonus. However the normal yellow vans come not the silver ones. I guess people pay a premium for silver. Turnaround time is about 30 minutes which is good. Lexus IS far better in my opinion than a Mercedes.

Mine is serviced here

AMG Cheshire - Mercedes Cheshire - Mercedes Specialist, BMW Specialist

It's never been serviced by MB since i bought it, Mercedes Me shows my Moibilo cover valid until mid April, i have also confirmed with MB Customer Services that it is valid. I suggest you find another Indiie if you want Mobilo.

Ignore the 'Service Plan' as i don't have one

Interesting that you know the Service Plan info in incorrect, but you're convinced Mobilo is OK!

It isn't covered because the indie is not an authorised repairer. If they were, why wouldn't they make a massive deal about on their website?

Maybe Mobilo will slip up and turn out, who knows? Hopefully you'll never have to test it.

Some members here reported that Mobilo is showing as active after a service has been recorded online in the Digital Service Book by the garage, even if the garage is an Indie with access to DBS (I.e. not a franchised MB dealer).

And yes it does sound odd, although to be fair MB say that a dealer service gets you one year of Mobilo cover, but they don't actually say that you can't get it any other way...
