Hi guys recently come across a problem with my gearbox. I believe I might need a new box just wanted to know if the are any good specialist or even better if I can replace it with a 500 gearbox.

Regards. Mo

What are the symptoms?

I've had 'boxes rebuilt by Penn Autos in Wolverhampton with great results. It's good going there too, they're a really old school place and they always have interesting cars in getting worked on.

Basically my mate tried doing burnouts then next thing we hear is a pop and no drive in the gears. So when in D or R nothing happens car just revs with no movement.

You are looking at a rebuild, the most important thing is to find a reputable rebuilder who understands and has worked on Mercedes gearboxes of that era.

Thanks chaps. Any recommendations or can I fit the 500 sec in my 560.

Cheers

Is it definitely the box? Maybe a flex disc, diff or half shaft. When I did this to my mum's brand new Rover 2000TC in 1970 it was the diff.

Just a thought.

Just check the first four digits of the gearbox code match, e.g 722.4

A replacement will be much cheaper than a recon. Second hand boxes are a fairly safe bet with these.

My money is on it being a broken driveshaft.

I hope you gave your mate a good slap !

Thanks. Where would I find the code? Cheers

Mine too.

And yes, I very sound slap.

Although we are the only ones who are voting for a "non-box" issue.

Whatever.

Drive loss

Just a though T/C drive sheared ??? saw this on old 3500 rover once

Hey guys got an update from the AA chap yesterday. It's basically the rear right drive shaft. Now the next mission is to find out if all the drive shafts are same across the SEC range. Can someone help advise me on this.
Thank you all.

Regards. Mo

And if his car had ASR the drive shaft probably wouldn't be snapped!

Haha yes true!
