Hi Guys,My Merc 320 cdi has full merc service history(07 car) Question is,Is it worth paying the service prices to keep up the Mobilo warranty ?My computer is showing a one spanner service is due. What price should I expect to pay for this?

The engine oil in your car has to meet 229.51 spec (low ash oil) and is expensive

From an independent expect to pay around £175 for the A Service (one spanner)

Will my mobilo warranty still be valid if I dont use a MB franchise ?

Dont you think its a bit new to take out of the MB network ? surely your only talking about £100 or so difference between MB and an indie ?

I would say keep it in the network until its 3 years old, then have a think about independants. If you have a big warrenty claim the last thing that you want is MB checking that you have complied with every term and condition of their servicing.

Good point!

On mine had a new gearbox and nearly 2 wheels (I contributed to one because a bit of kerbing), and a viscous fan. I was told that gearbox was £3.5k on its own.

Thats convinced me , thanks. What went wrong with gearbox?I've noticed some small pitting on wheels already

It was never properly diagnosed. Just had one very strange clunky gear change while in Germany with a noticable jerk. Mentioned it to dealer and said that would take a look. They drained the gearbox oil, which was burnt and MB immediately replaced gearbox.

Wheels are a common fault and MB will normally authorise replacement, unless there is kerb damage.

Cant argue with that service can you?

Nope, they were always pretty good. But given the car had done less than 40K at the time and I was stuck in an A class for 2 weeks was a bit put out. (don't mind the A class and quite happy to use them on the day loans, but was a bit tiresome long distance).

I,ve always had Audi's untill now.My decission was between an A6 and the 320 I have now.The Merc offered a lot more for the money, and feels better put together not to mention a lot lot smoother

Wife's R170 had all four alloys replaced under warranty after service at 2.5 years.

Dealers are wanting your aftersales business now so you may find it cheaper to service it by MD.

When I wanted a MOT doing on my 190E, my local dealer charged £40, valeted it, collected and delivered it and left my a courtesy car (nice C-Class) so can't really complain. Local garage was £50 with no extra's

I had two new alloys under warranty - even with a little kerbing - no additional to pay. What I do is let MB do the basic servicing as per the schedule - but extras like brakes / discs - go to Indie.
