Mercedes SL63 AMG vs Yamaha R1 300km/h

That biker has a lot of bottle, but nothing between his ears!

That is utterly frightening on a 2 lane, 2 way road.

I'd back off at a tonne lol.

That's the trouble with speed limiters on vehicles, everything travels on the limiter and it's very difficult to overtake...

:D :D :D

That's one unrestricted 63 :thumb:.

Doing that on the open road is a bit naughty, just as well for the biker they weren't in the corners....

Thats some crazy stuff. Something tells me its not an AMG... more like a Brabus if its going more than 300km/h.

The 300kph (186mph) is a restriction (up from the standard 250kph restriction).

Unrestricted it would do more as standard.

Be good to see these guys on a track...

Does anybody know if the bike would be restricted or is that the top speed for a R1?

A Hayabusa tops 200mph, but it's more aerodynamically dressed.

An R1 is a lighter, less powerful track type bike.

The 1999 Hayabusa was unrestricted, other years were restricted to 187mph but in reality 300kmh is flat out for any stock Busa. A true calibrated 187mph would be an indicated 210-215mph iirc.

They are very easy to fettle with however and are very strong motors capable of reliably running at 500bhp without huge amounts of money being thrown at them. 250mph+ is then not unheard of.

The R1 video didnt look to me like it was doing a true 299kmh. At that speed things close in a fair bit quicker if my memory serves me right. More likely it had a sprocket change altering gearing and indicated speed.

I would take a stab at that being about 150mph real speed.

Got a day at Brooklands booked next month driving an SL63 as part of an AMG Diving Experience:). Did seem to be accelerating very hard compared to the bike. Can't be standard can it?

Maybe maybe not. They pull and pull right upto the limiter. I destroyed a friends GSXR750 from around 40mph right up to ........the speed limit, lots of clear space! ;-)

Enjoy your day.

165-170mph is when things start getting warped and really going backwards.
And you start noticing corners that aren't there when cruising at 130.
