Hi all

I have a few niggly electrical problems that need sorting out on my car but I dont want to take it to the main dealer and pay their prices.

Can anyone recommend somewhere local ish to me. I live in Solihull, West Midlands?

Also may start servicing it with them too.

Thanks
Jay

Also try Googling
* WDM Cars, Perry Barr.
* Lanes of Lichfield, Stonnall (between Walsall and Sutton Coldfield).

No personal experience of either, although a member on here bought an ML from Lanes, and seemed pleased at the time.

Hope this helps

msl on stratford road are mercedes specialists. ive heard they are very good and always very busy

Howard Williams, florence street of holloway head in birmingham.Ive used him for years with no probs.

I would have given him a try, but he never bothered to give me a call back with a quote when I asked.

I have just part exchanged my CLK for an S Class which I bought from Prospects of Solihull who are independent car dealers but specialising in Mercedes.

I have been using the main Mercedes dealership in Tamworth for both of my cars but have become disenchanted and may give these lads a try next time - especially as they will operate a collect and deliver service.

The website is http://www.prospectsolihull.co.uk/ and prior to buying a car from them yesterday I had never come across the before.

Incidentally my disenchantment with the dealership increased when returning from a fortnight's holiday last week and finding that my wife's SLK wouldn't start I contacted the Tamworth dealership (5 miles away) and they said that it would cost £185 to send someone out as the car didn't have a complete Mercedes history. The fact that it was the previous owner who had used an independent and not me was deemed irrelevant.

Is it worth getting on to trading standards about that? Surely it doesn't matter now, and your Mobilo life should be in use again.

I'm at Tamworth on Friday, as I was disheartened with Walsall, but I still don't hold much faith in them finding the wheel/suspension/steering problem if it's not the balancing.

Unfortunately having committed to buying an S350 from Prospect on Friday 27th April and handing over a deposit of £500 I was telephoned by another dealer on the Sunday to say that the Alpina B10 that I had been after and that had previously been sold, was now back on the market as the "buyer" couldn't raise any money. As I had been after an Alpina for some while I agreed to buy it and immediately contacted Prospect to cancel my purchase of his S350.

I didn't expect them to be particularly happy and they weren't. Having committed to buying his car they were within their rights to keep my deposit but I hoped to salvage something by offering him my wife's SLK to service and suggested booking it in for the major service that was now due as a part offset but they didn't want to play ball.

I notice that they have now sold the S Class and presumably made a £500 windfall but in the circumstances I won't be giving them my wife's SLK to service and maintain so they have probably lost more cash and goodwill over a period. I know that it was ultimately my fault but a more flexible approach could have resulted in a long term gain for them but I'll be booking it in at Mercedes in Tamworth as usual

Ian im sorry mate, but you cant expect them to welcome you with open arms when you have already messed them about..

If you had pulled out of a deal with me without a reasonable explanation then i wouldnt be very happy either.

Thats why deposits exist. If you are not 100% certain you want the car then never pay a deposit and risk losing the car but you cant have it both ways.

Get over it, you messed him around and he deserves to keep the £500...

Anyone have the number for msl, I cant find it.

Also i didnt think prospect did servicing??

I've used WDM for the last 5 years. 0121 331 1066, opposite Perry Barr greyhound stadium.

Andy Gayle has a good reputation, but I found Smethwick a bit difficult to get to, and his prices were quite high for an independent.

I've been living in Cardiff for the last 2 years, but still take my car up to WDM, as they are a lot better and cheaper than the independents round here.
