Had a shock today. MB dealer tells me I need a new alternator for my 2011 W212 E350 CDi. Quoted £1,000. Is this a bit high?

I need some new discs and pads soon as well so quite a big bill on the way. Can anyone recommend a good MB specialist in or near Birmingham?

PS I was a bit annoyed that a tyre which was cut was replaced with a Continental, not a Bridgestone as the rest of the car. No one mentioned it would not be the OE fit tyre. I have had a bad experience with Michelins which wore very quickly so wanted to stay on Bridgestones

New to the forum, my first post!

Cheers

As mentioned above really, though if you're on the Nuneaton side, Jay at Mercland is also a sponsor on here and gets good reviews.

Also a nice guy. :)

Off to MSL now, thanks to everyone who replied

Oh dear. I went to MSL and was seriously unimpressed. Reception hopeless but spoke to someone in the workshop who promised to get me a quote but never came back to me. He did not even think he could save much vs the dealer ... all very odd.

Phoned Andy Gayle and spoke to someone who talked a lot of sense. I expect to be saving big time vs the main dealer. Booked in next Wednesday so I'll see how it goes.

Have to say Acid is really great and found lads in workshop are fine.

My problem is I have had my service done and nagged for the updates online record printout. I eventually got it but it's wrong. No indication of oil used on it, no indication of miles left until service, no box ticked to say done to MB standards like the previous ones at MSL, wrong reg number on document and I've given up asking for it to be redone. I emailed the lady back to say it's all wrong and never got a response. I have to say I'm pretty annoyed about it :wallbash:

To be fair, MSLP are usually very busy because they are good.

I've never had anything but excellent service from them.

Speak to the gaffer (Acid) and I promise you he will resolve things!

Trust me - I am the first to complain about sh*t service but also the first to highlight excellent service - I travel 2.5 hours to get to MSLP sometimes because it is well worth it.

Yep agree with this totally. I'm going to take my printout in and get it resolved but have to say my initial impression of reception was not good.

I would still use them again as the workshop guys were fantastic and also took care of the car :)

It's all going downhill since Sheenah left. :D

Elaine is good, but more on the spares side of things. Her sister (I think) is now working there, but pretty new at the moment.

As John says, speak to the man and it will get sorted, though I've heard he's away at the moment? Not sure about this but it would explain a couple of things...

Yes good point, I'd forgotten about that.

There is a different newish girl on Saturday although I've forgotten her name (although I remember exactly what she looks like... ;)).

It must be hard for any outfit to get it right all of the time but MSLP do way better than most of the posted experiences of MB on here!

I can tell you now Acid will be truly gutted to hear of your experience.

But it's good you have fed back as whilst it hurts, you can't change what you don't know about.

One of the nicest and most generous guys I've met at any garage I've ever used!

Been to Andy Gayle for a service and new alternator. Everything went well and Andy is a very personable chap. He said I was unlucky needing a new alternator after only 52,000 miles. They should normally last 2 or 3 times as long. They cleaned the car well inside and out.

Overall very positive and I will use them again. result!

I used WMD in Perry Barr, opposite the dog track, guys in the workshop seem to know their stuff.

Not used MSL so cant comment.
