Hi does any one know whats the best way to buy a star diagnostic kit.and how much.i got 2 jobs to do

I suggest popping into a MB specialist and get them to plug it into their star.

Its not simply about reading codes, its interpreting them correctly also.

If you’re confident in your ability to use a Star, then just Google “Star C3” and you’ll find that there are suppliers throughout the world.


I really do mean "confident" because Star has the ability to thoroughly rearrange all those little ones and noughts such that the car will never move under its own power again.



It would not be appropriate on a forum such as this to recommend any one purveyor of what might turn out to be counterfeit hardware or software, but I can tell you that the cheapest you’ll find will work out at a little over £300 including an old LapTop running XP SP3.

Google it, it's not hard to find, but remember you will get little support for the hardware and no support for the software.

Having said that, you get what you pay for, and there are some very good working models out there.

Look on ebay if you want a UK supplier, possibly bit more support but around twice the price

I'm unsure whether this is serious or whether you're baiting me but the rules of this forum are clear: whether public or by PM, so instead might I suggest that you do as I said earlier and Google "Star C3".

The hardware is available from £175 plus software for a further £75 plus an old LapTop for £60. Simples!

As has been mentioned you'll get the square root of no technical support from the suppliers, as I found out, but the kit is out there.

I paid just over £225 last winter but I already had a host laptop.

I wouldn't suggest that you order quantity fifty and start up as a reseller because M-B(UK) will be down on you like a ton of bricks...

I am looking into getting one of the MB Star C4 SD Connect devices, that are advertised on the internet and are readily available for circa £300 for all hardware and software. I already have a Dell D630 on which I have successfully run Carsoft 7.4 on for the older MB's.
I will be doing a little more research and a bit of bartering and hopefully placing an order next week sometime.

I will let you know how I get on.
